Position Title: General Manager, Prairies
Team and Location: Commercial, Edmonton, AB (Parkland will consider applicants from other locations within Alberta)
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Vice President, Commercial, the General Manager will lead their assigned region using Parkland’s BOLD Leadership Model – Build, Own, Lead, and Deliver – to achieve exceptional Safety and financial results while displaying leadership behaviours to support Parkland’s corporate culture. The General Manager is accountable for the region’s key performance indicators (KPIs) including Safety, Revenue/Volume Growth, EBITDA, Return on Capital, Operating Ratio, Continuous Improvement, Customer Service and Employee Engagement. The GM will manage multiple priorities all with the customer in mind to achieve high levels of customer satisfaction and win new business.
Key Responsibilities:
Safety
- Act as role model for safety compliant BOLD behaviours and instill a safety culture throughout the region/organization
- Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) policies are adhered to and all employees abide by hours of work and safe work practices
- Ensure adequate resources are allocated to complete HSE programs and initiatives
- Accountable for the implementation, monitoring and follow-up of safety programs
- Take immediate action to correct unsafe working conditions, methods and procedures used in region
Business Leadership
- Understand and translate Commercial strategic priorities into regional objectives and priorities
- Achieve profitable business growth and annual volume targets in the region
- Provide direction and ownership of business results and KPIs
- Present business results, including variances to plan and action plans to improve performance
- Develop strong relationships with key customers to resolve complex customer services issues and maintain excellent customer service
- Create business cases and AFE to support capital spending decisions
- Ensure proper safeguards in place to account for and protect assets
- Develop long-term strategic plan for the region
- Develop M&A pipeline and work on corporate development opportunities
- Maintain region market awareness ensuring Parkland remains competitive within the targeted segments
Sales
- Achieve or exceed annual regional sales objectives
- Ensure effective growth and margin expansion strategies are in place
- Manage sales planning efforts on a regional basis in alignment with National sales planning
- Implement and monitor effective marketing strategies to support business growth objective
- Negotiate large customer contracts and tenders within region
Operations
- Ensure achievement of annual regional operations objectives
- Lead, coach, develop, and motivate Regional Leadership Team, including field operations, sales, and regional operations centre
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement to improve productivity, asset utilization, and cost improvement
- Work collaboratively with corporate support functions to ensure compliance with corporate processes, policies, and procedures
- Collaborate with Supply & Distribution team to ensure alignment and effective placement of product in region
Qualifications and Skills:
- Post-secondary education and 10+ years’ experience in a senior leadership role
- Strong business acumen and financial management skills
- Strong business presence complemented by resourcefulness, sound business judgement, customer focus and action orientated
- Proven track record of successfully leading a team (sales, customer service, and logistics operations) in a safe and profitable manor
- Excellent customer service and negotiation skills
- Ability to work collaboratively and cross-functionally across teams and to manage many stakeholders
- A motivated team player with strong communications and organizational skills
- Willingness to travel with frequent overnights will be required
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean Drivers Abstract
