Unit 47 is a fast-paced acute medical unit. The unit culture is one that values and respects individual team members and their expertise, collaborating with the health care team to meet the care needs of the patients. Unit 47 utilizes the CoACT and PFCC (patient and family centered care) principles to deliver patient care. This Health Care Aid (HCA) role provides patient care services as an unregulated worker under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification. Additional Required Qualifications:

The HCA will demonstrate effective time management skills. The HCA works a member of a team and requests and accepts direction as required. The HCA must demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients, families, visitors and team members, communicating clearly in verbal and written English. The HCA demonstrates awareness and understanding of patient needs, providing appropriate care as delegated in accordance with AHS policies, procedures and standards. The HCA demonstrates consideration of patient comfort, safety, privacy, independence, choice and dignity. The HCA also provides indirect services to support the overall provision of care in their unit or assigned area. This job classification requires a heavy physical demand level as per the AHS Job Demands Summary. The HCA understands and complies with the AHS Code of Conduct. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support is required. Preferred Qualifications:

1 year minimum acute care experience.
