Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager, Northern Zone – Community and Home Supports – Mental Health & Addictions, the clinician provides services directly in the school community environment within the designated Schools Plus schools. Schools Plus is a collaborative model that is comprehensive and student focused. Partners work together to educate and provide service to the child and their family, with the school as the center of the service. The Schools Plus Mental Health Clinician (SPMHC) is a member of a school-based multidisciplinary team and participates in the planning, development, provision and evaluation of mental health and addictions services for the assigned population in designated school settings. The service will focus on early identification and intervention of mental health and addictions disorders for children and adolescent within the school population. The clinician will act as a liaison between the client, school, and mental health and addictions services.
Qualifications
Masters of Social Work.
- Current registration with the NSCSW, or eligible to become registered, required.
- Two (2) years related clinical experience required, practicum training or experience in the child and youth mental health outpatient field is an asset.
- Practicum training or experience in the child and youth mental health outpatient field is an asset.
- Ongoing professional development is required.
- Ongoing development related to information systems (such as SAP and Meditech).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook).
- Competence in assessment, intervention (individual, family and group) and research.
- Knowledge of mental illness.
- Knowledge of DSM V.
- Knowledge of health promotion and community resources/development.
- Demonstrated accountability.
- Demonstrated judgment and decision-making skills.
- Strong client focus and ability to lead solid client/practitioner relationships.
- Demonstrated communication and conflict-resolution skills.
- Demonstrated collaboration and teamwork skills.

- Valid Nova Scotia Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.
