HSE Program Coordinator

NAC is currently seeking an HSE Program Coordinator to join our safety team based at our Head Office in Morriston, Ontario.

Position Summary:

The Health Safety & Environment (HSE) Program Coordinator works with all levels of management and employees within the construction and office environments. They support NAC’s HSE Team and overall HSE Program. They are responsible for the administration the HSE Program & associated documentation, organizational HSE communications, and HSE Program deliverables applicable to Head Office and the Equipment Yard.

Position Duties:

  • Actively support the NAC Health & Safety Program and all actions to meet annual HSE objectives and initiatives.
  • Proactively identify and recommend opportunities for improvements to HSE management and performance.
  • Administration & Support of the HSE Program:
  • Responsible for timely and effective administration of NAC’s HSE Program, including documentation maintenance and research, creation, processing and disseminate communications through a variety of methods.
  • Continual review and make improvements to the quality and quantity of HSE documentation
  • Manage annual updates of health, safety and environment manuals
  • Evaluate the quantity and quality of incoming incident reports and other HSE data
  • Manage the administration of the Return to Work (RTW) process for injured workers while protecting NAC’s interests
  • Acquire and maintain a current working knowledge of applicable HSE policies, procedures, regulations and legislation related ongoing needs of the HSE Program
  • Liaise with government agencies regarding NAC’s HSE performance/employer reports, insurance premiums and rebates, interpretations of HSE legal requirements, etc.
  • Responsible for the STM automated platform. This includes system knowledge, input & validating data, compiling & publishing reports, tracking and analyzing safety statistics, etc.
  • Participate in creating & implementing training programs.

HSE Communications:

  • Responsible for the creation and dissemination of NAC’s internal HSE communication program to enhance safety awareness, provide continuity across the organization and to promote effective internal safety communication.
  • Prepares and maintains an inventory of safety posters and other materials that relate to NAC’s Life Saving Rules (LSR), critical tasks or current interests/needs
  • Support HSE orientations (for employees and sub-contractors) by putting together orientation packages and PowerPoint presentations
  • Identify and highlight trends routinely by regularly scanning public information sources for and maintain a roster of advisories, directives, communiques, articles and other materials about incidents at like-industries that are relevant to NAC
  • Generate and maintain a roster of LSR-relevant toolbox talks
  • Liaison with the HSE Advisors about their safety communication needs (Monthly)
  • Distribute electronic Safety Updates to pre-determined NAC audiences (Monthly)
  • Coordinate submissions of safety articles for the company newsletter (Quarterly)
  • Coordinate communication on and implementation of updates to STM

Office and Yard HSE

  • Ensure timely maintenance of O&Y emergency response equipment (e.g. fire extinguishers, first aid kits, spill kits, and the automated external defibrillator)
  • Participate in the O&Y first aid and emergency evacuation teams

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary diploma/certificate in HSE, business, communications, administration or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a similar role preferred
  • ​Proficient in administrative activities requiring attention to detail and experience with Microsoft Office suite of products and other common applications
  • 2+ years of previous similar experience within the construction industry or similar environment would be an asset
  • Valid driver’s license
