Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS-related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.
The Energy Management (Co-op) role will primarily be involved in expanding the energy management program and enhance energy conservation at Seaspan Shipyards. This role is an incredible opportunity to gain practical experience in various aspects of engineering and energy management working in an industrial setting.
What you’ll do
The life of the Energy Management Intern includes:
- Learning from and working with the Energy Management team to identify, document and analyze existing operating parameters and energy data with respect to energy use.
- Perform and assist in audits and engineering studies to identify opportunities for energy savings.
- Help to develop energy KPIs and reports to support the strategic Energy Management plans.
- Help to expand the employee awareness program.
- Learn about large-scale industrial energy systems involving electric power, natural gas, compressed air usage, etc.
- Work on utility monthly power billing, energy modelling software, and variety of energy auditing tools.
What you’ll bring
- Enrolment in program related to Energy Management/Clean Energy like MEM/MEL/MS(SEE) from NYIT, UBC, SFU, BCIT or similar programs.
- Knowledge of technologies, systems of technologies, building design, or industrial processes that can reduce energy use (energy savings measures).
- Experience with report and memo writing in a corporate environment is an asset.
- Programming skills and data analytics experience are an asset.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
