Within the context of a client services environment, the Laundry Worker distributes linen according to established policies and procedures.

What you’ll do

  • Distributes clean linen by methods such as ordering and receiving linen from external laundry contractor, checking to ensure correct amounts received, sorting items onto ward carts according to established quotas, and delivering linen carts out to wards.
  • Maintain daily quotas of linen by methods such as discussing needs with the wards, identifying specific requirements and advising the external laundry contractor.
  • Maintains laundry and linen service records and provides reports to supervisor as required; counts linen, collects linen from user areas and distributes linen to user areas.
  • Collects resident and facility laundry from designated areas and returns to Minoru Personal Laundry room or Soiled Holding area. Assists with loading soiled laundry on to delivery truck for removal to external laundry contractor.
  • Sorts, folds and stacks linen in accordance with established policies and procedures. Loads and unloads laundry carts. Delivers prepared resident laundry and laundry carts to designated areas.
  • Attends a variety of meetings such as departmental and “in-service” meetings and participates in the orientation of new employees by demonstrating techniques as required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Grade 10 or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • As a strong asset for consideration, we are looking for our successful candidate to have: Knowledge of social, economic, political and historical realities impacting indigenous communities and familiarity with Indigenous Cultural Safety and anti-racism and accompanying reports (BC DRIPA, TRC, etc.).
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.

  • Ability to operate related equipment.
