The Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation sets the strategic direction and oversees the administration of the University of Ottawa’s research enterprise, including funding, equipment and facilities, international collaborations, partnerships and business development.
Position Purpose
Provides experienced marketing, communications and events support for the Office of the Director, Public Policy Research and Outreach (OPPRO) to further University objectives with respect to public policy impact and engagement, including with respect to the Alex Trebek Forum for Dialogue and in areas related, but not limited to: marketing, communication, media relations, events and other related initiatives.
Specific Accountabilities
- In collaboration with the Director, Public Policy Research and Outreach, develops and implements a marketing, communications and events strategy to advance university objectives with respect to public policy impact and engagement, including within the framework of the Alex Trebek Forum for Dialogue.
- Plans, develops and manages the production of bilingual content of printed, online and verbal marketing and engagement materials in an omni-channel environment as required (e.g. via social media, digital, web, video, interviews, podcasts, and publication channels). Leverages content developed by content creators and provides advice on the use of graphic components (e.g. infographics). Identifies potential stories and looks for opportunities to increase engagement and interactions with key personas from research, university, government, industry and the public.
- Supports University objectives with respect to public policy impact and engagement and communicates important information regarding university and research engagement and activities relating to public policy to external and internal audiences. Meets translation requirements and reviews content while ensuring quality and consistency with the University of Ottawa standards.
- Serves as the primary marketing and communications point of contact for public policy researchers, including building productive and positive relationships with clients while maintaining an in-depth understanding of their research, culture, and communications and marketing, needs. Nurtures these relationships by providing exceptional client service and advice. Maintains or exceeds service levels as established by client service agreements.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills
- Post-secondary (or college) diploma in marketing, communications, journalism or a related discipline
- Three years’ work experience in a similar role
- Knowledge of public relations, communications, marketing and events activities.
- Experience in organizing special events and events logistics
- Experience and knowledge using computer systems and software such as word processing, databases, presentation software, spreadsheets, design software
- Knowledge of online communications and integrated communications strategies
- Knowledge of software and computer programs including Microsoft Office 2007, Adobe Creative Suite CS6 or higher (InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) and CMS platforms (Drupal and others)
- Tact, diplomacy, creativity, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, initiative
- Bilingualism required (English and French), oral and written
