The Correctional Health Services Program has an interdisciplinary team and is responsible for the provision of primary care services, mental health and addictions services, and dental services, within the four adult provincial correctional facilities.

Responsibilities

***Please note that the location of this position is the Health Unit at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility***

Offender Health Services is responsible for the coordination and delivery of primary health care to the adult offender population located at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility. The Health Unit staff are responsible, in collaboration with other clinicians, for the safe and effective care of those incarcerated. Under the direction of the Health Services Manager the Licensed Practical Nurse is responsible within their scope of practice for:

  • the assessment, treatment and evaluation of health needs
  • administration of medication to the population
  • response to emergency medical needs of offenders in their living areas
  • education as necessary
  • delivery of care within the parameters of a secure Correction’s facility
  • Response to emergency medical needs of inmates
  • Health promotion and prevention
  • Delivery of care within the parameters of a secure Correctional Facility

Qualifications

  • Graduate of a recognized Licensed Practical Nursing course and current certification in Nova Scotia
  • Recent experience in Correctional Facility is an asset
  • Recent experience in medication administration required
  • Previous military experience is an asset
  • Psychiatric experience is an asset
  • Experience in long term care is an asset
  • Experience on a medical unit is an asset

*Two years medical LPN experience preferred

  • Ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work

Short Assignment, Full Time (100%) Position; 75 hours bi-weekly

Salary Information

$28.3268 – $30.4229 Hourly
