The Maintenance Technician is tasked with overseeing the optimal operation and maintenance of the Newall HVDC converter station. Working under senior guidance, the incumbent ensures electrical power is transferred safely and efficiently.

What You Get to Do:

  • Safety and Compliance: Strictly adhere to all safety and operational standards, including HVDC and Generation site mandates. Ensure work aligns with Health, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems.
  • Monitoring and Operations: Inspect, record, and ensure all station instrument readings, such as pressures, temperatures, and voltages, adhere to OEM specifications. Respond to any system dispatch requests promptly.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Schedule, oversee, and conduct regular maintenance tasks, from preventive actions to troubleshooting and repair of malfunctions. Engage in overhaul activities and ensure availability of essential replacement parts.
  • Contractor Oversight: Monitor on-site contractors, ensuring they follow company and safety standards. Manage contracts, handle orientations, and oversee permits and isolations.
  • Administrative Duties: Handle administrative tasks, including fuel inventory reconciliation, report creation, and purchase documentation. Ensure timely and accurate invoice processing.
  • Facility Cleanliness: Ensure the facility remains orderly by overseeing cleaning tasks, waste disposal, and proper storage of supplies.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Engage with teams across company locations and participate in tasks as needed. This role may require occasional travel and overnight stays.
  • Equipment Operation: Safely operate vehicles and other machinery, including skid steers, telehandlers, and aerial lift platforms.
  • Continuous Improvement: Offer feedback to enhance operational efficiency and stay updated with relevant Health, Safety, and Environmental regulations.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Relevant trade certificate (e.g., Electrician, Millwright, or Heavy Duty Mechanic) or a diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Technology. Other related disciplines may also be considered.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience in maintaining electrical equipment is an asset.

An expectation of this position is to provide after-hours stand-by duties. As such, you will be required to maintain a residence within 60 minutes of Newell Converter Station.
