As a Manager, Mental Health & Substance Use with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:
- Report to the Director, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH), Coastal Community of Care (CoC) in Powell River
- Will act as the clinical/administrative lead to ensure the effective and efficient Mental Health & Substance Uses (MHSU) services in Powell River.
- Be a part of this portfolio that is comprised of a variety of mental health & substance use programs including an inpatient psychiatric unit, community based services for housing, residential rehabilitation, substance use services, and liaison with family physicians.
- Be responsibile for including the development of effective management of a comprehensive system of mental health and substance use.
- Provide leadership to the multidisciplinary teams and participates, or delegates as required, to community events as a liaison for the MHSU programs.
- Provide leadership and management of the human, financial and material resources; incorporates best practices in education and research; directs planning, implementation and evaluation of MHSU and activities related to utilization and risk management; ensures quality improvement of the service; leads an interdisciplinary team and works as a team player with colleagues and co-workers and in collaboration with key internal and external stakeholders to achieve excellence in client and family-centred care.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
- Master’s Degree in a relevant health care profession
- Five (5) years’ successful supervisory and progressive managerial experience in Mental Health and Substance Use service settings, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Current registration/membership with a recognized provincial College/professional association.
Knowledge & Abilities
- Exhibits comprehensive knowledge and skillful application of relevant departmental policies, provincial and municipal legislative requirements and other programs and processes related to Mental Health & Substance Use.
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to develop, manage and evaluate programs/services considering client needs, service delivery interrelationships and service potential within a complex environment.
- Uses strong leadership, strategic thinking, problem solving and innovation abilities to develop effective strategies and ensure support and attainment of goals.
- Demonstrates commitment to advancing client and patient safety and quality across the designated areas.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively lead and mentor designated staff, and foster a respectful and motivating work environment in which individual competencies can thrive.
- Understands available resources for program/service and keeps quality in the forefront of all resource utilization decisions.
- Facilitates, collaborates and negotiates for effective resolution of human resource issues.
- Fosters collaborative working relationships and supports the ongoing development of staff.
- Utilizes skill and knowledge in the use of the organization’s electronic systems and technology such as internal e-mail software programs and supports staff in the utilization of relevant computer technology and software programs.
- Exhibits strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational skills including the ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines and work independently.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
