The salary range for this position is:

Recruitment range: $64,970 – $73,124 starting salary determined by the PEA .

Performance range: starting salary to max of $85,269 is available through annual performance increases.

Job Summary

The Division of Learning and Teaching Support and Innovation (LTSI) is an academic support unit in the University, which reports to the Office of the Vice President Academic and Provost. The Division has five portfolios of responsibility including: Teaching Excellence, Technology Integrated Learning, Student Academic Success, Curriculum Renewal & Strategic Initiatives and Community-Engaged Learning. The Division is focused on enhancing student learning and teaching excellence in academic programs across the University.

The Technology Integrated Learning (TIL) portfolio within LTSI provides learning technology tools and support to empower faculty, staff, and students to effectively teach and learn with technology in face-to-face, blended, multi-access, and fully online learning experiences. Specifically, TIL provides (a) support for using learning technologies, such as Brightspace, Echo360, Zoom, Teams, Crowdmark, iClicker, and the Online Academic Community (WordPress), (b) pedagogical guidance on teaching with technology, including strategies for technology enabled active learning and assessment, and digital accessibility and universal design for learning, and (c) research and consultation for new and emerging learning technologies and approaches, (d) projects for piloting, evaluating and maintaining learning technology solutions keeping UVic current in terms of technology in education.

Reporting to the TIL Program Director, the Educational Technology Support Manager is responsible for overseeing Educational Technology Support in the LTSI Faculty Support Teams and for UVic’s Learning Technology Ecosystem. LTSI Educational Technologists provide information, guidance and learning opportunities for the selection and use learning technologies in face-to-face, blended, fully online, and multi-access courses. Key responsibilities include day to day operations, oversight of quality of educational technology support, and assisting with strategic leadership initiatives related to learning and teaching with technology. The TIL Educational Technology Support Manager is also an integral part of the TIL leadership team and working closely with the TIL Director, the Learning Experience Design Manager and the Learning Technology Ecosystem Manager as well as campus partners and the UVic community.

Job Requirements

This position requires a BA degree in social sciences, business, computer science or other relevant field, plus a minimum of 5 years of experience in higher education.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Experience:

  • Management experience with small teams in a post-secondary environment
  • Experience assisting clients, preferably instructors and students with resolving learning technology related problems
  • Experience leading projects

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Familiarity with learning technology, such as Brightspace, Echo360, Zoom, Teams, Crowdmark, iClicker, and the Online Academic Community (WordPress)
  • Sufficient knowledge to use complex administrative, professional, or technical concepts and procedures in teaching and learning
  • Working knowledge on how courses are taught, pedagogical approaches and how technology best enables online, blended and in-person learning and teaching
  • Continuous researching of platforms, software as a service, and professional development to keep up to date with technology advancements and their impact on providing a high-quality learning and teaching experience

  • Superior communication skills, both written, verbal and public speaking
  • Professionalism when dealing with difficult situations
  • Ability to build and maintain productive working relationships with all stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

  • Resourcefulness in researching complex educational technology issues

Assets or Preferences:

  • Familiarity with quality learning and teaching practices in higher education is an asset
  • Advanced degree is an asset
