Reporting to the Marketing and Communications Director, the Marketing and Social Media Officer will be responsible for assisting in the development, management and implementation of the Museum’s marketing plans and initiatives and providing oversight of the Museum’s Social Media channels to drive visitor attendance and virtual engagement. Working with the Director and the Studio Manager of the department, the Marketing and Social Media Officer will assist with the conceptualization and implementation of a variety of tactics to meet specific annual departmental goals and targets, and the development and deployment of Social Media content.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director in the development, implementation and evaluation of an institutional marketing strategy and plan that integrates all AKM programs and products.
  • Implement marketing strategies for various internal departments and their programs/activities, including Exhibitions, Performing Arts, Exhibitions, Education, Shop, Diwan and Aga Khan Park, that will promote AKM to its various markets.
  • Develop, implement and manage (independently and with Museum departments) the Museum’s Social Media strategy including editorial calendars and tactical plans that integrate with Museum wide activities and campaigns.
  • Research, write (ensuring writing is clear, compelling and grammatically correct), schedule, and post content for Social Media channels in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Provide daily oversight (monitoring and moderating) of the Museum’s social media accounts including, but not limited to, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Manage (directly or with agency partners) all Social Media KPIs, advertising spend and creative development.
  • Develop new content and repurpose existing content for distribution via social channels.
  • Monitor and moderate review sites (Trip Advisor, Google, etc.) and escalate issues to the Marcom team as they arise and work with the team to resolve.
  • Ensure that all Social Media messages and content are relevant to both the target audience and brand objectives.
  • Prepare marketing and Social Media activity reports and metrics for measuring program and campaign success.
  • Schedule, design, and distribute e-mail campaigns, e-newsletters and surveys, verifying content and mailing lists for accuracy.
  • Monitor campaign results, analyze & optimize e-mail elements to continually improve results and schedule follow-up e-mail campaigns based on learnings.
  • Support various ongoing research projects to understand visitor and non-visitors ongoing motivations, barriers to entry, demographics, information source, etc.
  • Work with the Marcom Studio Manager to ensure marketing materials are engaging and accurate.
  • Participate in the development and deployment of key messages for a variety of both internal and external stakeholder audiences. (Internal: Performing Arts, Exhibitions, Education, Shop, Diwan and Aga Khan Park, staff & volunteers, etc. External: general public, institutional relationships & partnerships, members & sponsors).
  • Manage administrative duties including scheduling meetings and arranging stakeholder visits to the Museum.
  • Stay informed on current marketing, advertising, Social Media and digital trends.
  • Support the Marketing and Communications Director in preparing reports for the Board and it’s committees etc.
  • Any other tasks as assigned by the line manager.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 4 years of related experience in marketing/agency or arts/non-profit environment.
  • Minimum university undergraduate degree in marketing, advertising or communications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of marketing campaigns and web and social media analytics, ability to interpret analytics, communicate results develop key insights that will drive performance against objectives.
  • Knowledge of marketing and communications concepts, practices and techniques.
  • Excellent knowledge of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, TikTok, and other emerging platforms as well as Social Media tools including Hootsuite, Sprout, Falcon, and Buffer.
  • Good design sensibility (including imagery, font and colour) as it relates to social and digital media (knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite or Photoshop/InDesign is an asset).
  • Experience managing all aspects of e-mail campaigns and delivery through such e-mail services such as MailChimp, Constant Contact or SendGrid.
  • Excellent written communication skills, particularly the ability to write clear, compelling and grammatically correct copy.
  • Strategic thinker and creative problem solver; possessing creativity and imagination.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and an ability to multi-task with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work well under tight timelines or changes in priorities.
  • Highly organized, accurate and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a cross-functional and team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity working with digital project management tools will be advantageous.
  • Ability to work outside of regular business hours as and when required to do so.
  • Desire and ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic organization.
  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge and passion for visual arts an asset.
  • Previous experience with front-end web development (HTML, CSS, JAVA) an asset.
  • Expressed interest in the mandate of the Museum

Expected salary: $50000 – 60000 per year
