Job description: Position Overview
The Department of Medicine in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Medical Radiation Technologist. This Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 8 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) is a large, national, long-term study that follows approximately 50,000 individuals who are between the ages of 45 and 85 when recruited, for at least 20 years. The CLSA collects information on the changing biological, medical, psychological, social, lifestyle and economic aspects of people’s lives. These factors will be studied to understand how, individually and in combination, they have an impact in both maintaining health and in the development of disease and disability as people age.
This position reports to the Calgary Data Collection Site (DCS) Research Coordinator. Following established standard operating procedures, the Medical Radiation Technologist is responsible for performing bone density measurements and data collection on research participants through a variety of on-site equipment, procedures and questionnaires.
This is a recurring part-time position. Recurring Part-tme employees are hourly employee engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.
Position Description
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- It is imperative that duties are carried out as outlined in the standard operating procedures of the CLSA
- Follow good clinical practices in research, stay updated on most current trainings as necessary
- Directly responsible for performing bone density measurements on research participants through the operation of equipment as indicated
- Performing physical measurements on research participants, using a variety of equipment and procedures
- Ensuring high level of care and safety by following effective radiation protection practices and precautionary measures to avoid excessive radiation to research subjects and research staff
- Perform quality control checks and maintenance on radiographic and various equipment
- Provide appropriate care of research subjects during the radiographic examinations and other procedures
- Maintain ethical and confidentiality standards with regards of all information collected from research subjects within the study
- Ensure accurate data collection and a high quality outcome for study participants
- Perform other duties as assigned and required
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Must have completed a recognized Post-Secondary Medical Radiation Technology program or Diploma from Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists
- License with Health Professions Act of Alberta required
- Registration with the Alberta College of Medical Diagnostic and Therapeutic Technologists required
- Research experience would be considered a strong asset, with ability to work well with public
- Excellent time management, interpersonal and communication skills, accuracy and attention to detail
- Knowledge and skill working with computer technology required (specific training on the systems used in the CLSA will be provided)
- Demonstrates ability to function independently and within a team environment
- Possess and maintain a positive attitude within work environment
- Strong organizational and decision-making skills required
- Demonstrates superior physical and emotional assessment skills
