Job description: Your Opportunity:

We are looking to recruit an experienced and skilled Mental Health Clinician (MHC) with a strong foundation of applied theoretical knowledge and experience in the area of Urgent Mental Health to join our team. This is an advanced clinical position providing assessment, diagnosis, brief intervention treatment modalities and recommendations on an urgent basis in Rural South (Okotoks, Black Diamond and High River) at the Okotoks Health & Wellness Centre to walk-in & UCC clients experiencing moderate to severe mental health problems. As an MHC you will collaborate and work as member of the multidisciplinary team including Physicians, RN/RPN and other community partners. The goal will be to connect individuals to mental health treatment and supports using a patient and family centred care approach. This is a unique position to the area and therefore will require flexibility to ensure the changing needs of the rural communities are met. As an MHC you are required to have a demonstrated commitment to collaborative practice to enhance patient health outcomes; your ability to set realistic expectations and boundaries in the therapeutic assessment; ability to work independently; time management and prioritization; conflict resolution, critical thinking and leadership skills are all essential to this role.

Description:

As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.

Required Qualifications:

Occupational Therapists: Completion of bachelor¿s degree in Occupational Therapy and active or eligible registration with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT). Psychologists: Completion of bachelor’s degree in Psychology and active (or eligible registration) with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP). Registered Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses: Completion of an accredited Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing education program and active (or eligible registration) with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Social Workers: Completion of bachelor’s degree in Social Work and active (or eligible registration) with the Alberta College of Social Work (ACSW). Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 2 years’ experience providing assessment, treatment and discharge to patients across the lifespan with mental health and addiction concerns within the last 5 years. Certified training with a minimum of 2 years applied experience in the last five years in individual therapy modalities such as DBT, CBT or Solution Focused Therapy. Theoretical knowledge and applied experience with Trauma Informed Care, though AHS modules or other community-based certificate in TIC. Minimum 2 years competency & application of using the DSM V with provisional diagnosis in the last five years. NVCI. Awareness of community agencies and resources for mental health clients. Advanced crisis management skills including but not limited to Suicide Risk assessments, intervention and treatment, de-escalation skills and the ability to triage the client’s wellness and utilize the multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of the client. Understanding of Concurrent Capable Practices. Preferred Qualifications:

Additional courses or certifications specific to the practice environment & population may be required. Experience working with complex addiction & mental health presentations with multiple barriers to wellness. Knowledge of community resources & referral paths. Training and experience in therapeutic modalities such as: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy & other evidence-based modalities.
