Job title: Mental Health Worker, Short Stay Unit
Job description: The mental health short stay unit at St Joseph’s Health Centre was recently renovated into a purpose built space that supports transitional aged youth presenting with a variety of mental health diagnoses and/or addiction issues. This unit uses a team approach to care planning and delivery of care. Working collaboratively with Registered Nurses, Psychiatrists, Social Workers and other allied health professionals. The Mental Health Worker provides experience and ability in promoting a therapeutic milieu within an acute inpatient mental health, short stay unit. The Mental Health Worker will conduct therapeutic group programming and is skilled in de-escalation and supportive counselling techniques. They will also assists the team in the development of individualized care plans, behavior monitoring and assessment, diffusing potentially complex situations, and discharge planning.
Qualifications:
- Community college or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant health care field.
- Minimum of 3 years working in mental health services essential including case management and crisis management for transitional aged youth preferably in an acute care setting.
- Experience in symptom assessment and management.
- Experience in crisis assessment and intervention.
- Experience in facilitating psycho-educational and therapeutic groups
- Experience in individual supportive therapy.
- Proven ability in therapeutic, de-escalation techniques and diversion.
- Experience in addictions is an asset.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to function both as a team member and independently.
- Comfortable working with a broad range of client groups.
- Demonstrates a good understanding of customer service.
- Fluency in a second language is an asset.
- Available to work flexible hours and shifts.
- Satisfactory attendance record.
