Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Manager, the Nurse provides nursing services in a withdrawal management (detoxification) setting. The services provided require specialized education, experience, and skills in addictions treatment. The duties include: assessment, care planning, withdrawal management, client teaching, supportive counseling, discharge planning, distributing medications as appropriate including withdrawal medications, monitoring patient condition and progress, and communicating with staff, other professionals, etc., as required. This position also requires participation on in-house committees such as Quality Management, Infection Control, Occupational Health and Safety and Special Projects.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an approved School of Nursing required
- Current registration (or eligibility) with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses is required
- Current BCLS certification required upon employment
- Minimum of one year previous related nursing experience preferred
- Demonstrated involvement with continuing education is an asset
- Completion of post diploma Mental Health Nursing Education preferred (i.e. completion of “Short Term Clinical Program in Mental Health Nursing” or “certificate of completion of a clinical major in Mental Health Nursing from a University” or “Psychiatric/Mental Health Certification” through the Canadian Nurses Association” or “Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program”, “Suicide Risk Assessment Program” through RNPDC)
- Certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or willingness to obtain within 3 months of obtaining position
- Education in concurrent disorders an asset
- Knowledge or experience in leading Therapeutic Group Work an asset.
- Demonstrated competence in clinical care and interpersonal effectiveness
- Professional experience in addictions would be considered preferred
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

- Certification in the Suicide Risk Assessment Program through the RNPDC or a willingness to obtain within the first two years of service.

Salary Information
$34.8623 – $41.2078 Hourly
$42.6501 with 25 years of RN experience
