Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Withdrawal Management/Wellness/ORT Clinic services – Mental Health & Addictions, or designate, the Registered Nurse/Rehabilitation Counsellor participates as an active member of the treatment team while maintaining professional autonomy as supported by the Standards of Practice defined by the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia. The Registered Nurse/Rehabilitation Counsellor is responsible for the provision of optimal client care, client teaching and supportive counseling, and recognizes and addresses the needs of the client’s family members when carrying out the responsibilities of assessment, treatment planning, withdrawal management and discharge planning.

The Registered Nurse/Rehabilitation Counsellor exhibits sound professional judgment and initiative while working within the Mission, Vision and Strategic Directions of the Program and incorporates into daily practice the Core Competencies and Values of the organization.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved School of Nursing, and currently registered or eligible to become registered with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN).
  • Current CPR Certification.
  • Experience working in a team environment and in a social or healthcare setting.
  • Personal and/or professional experience in addictions would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent listening, oral and written communication skills, with the ability to interact positively with patients, families, other health care providers and staff, demonstrating sensitivity, empathy and warmth.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and supervise patient care.
  • Ability to demonstrate sound decision-making skills in crises situations and be accountable for decisions.
  • Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness and organizational health.
  • Basic computer skills – Microsoft Suite – e-mail – internet – Meditech.

Preferred (Considered an Asset)

  • Two years nursing experience
  • Professional experience in Mental Health & Addictions
  • Competencies in other languages as asset, French preferred

Hours of Work

Permanent full-time (100%) position; 75.00 hours bi-weekly.

Salary Information

Nurse Rehabilitation Counselor (RN02):

$35.21 – $41.48 hourly

($42.94 hourly with 25 years of RN experience).
