Key Responsibilities

  • Inspect, repair and adjust gasoline and diesel powered units.
  • Perform maintenance and repair activities on various pieces of heavy equipment, including but not limited to pavers, loaders, skid steers, graders, excavators, dozers, backhoes and trucks.
  • Diagnose, service and repair various systems found on pieces of heavy equipment, such as mechanical and computer electronic controls, air brake systems, transmissions, high voltage generators, propane powered equipment and pneumatic systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and adjustments to fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires and clutches.
  • Diagnose problems, disassemble units, repair or replace parts and re assemble units in the following systems:
  • Brakes: Repair or replace shoes, pads drums, hoses, calipers, cylinders and any heavy-duty air brakes.
  • Cooling: Flush radiator, replace hoses and thermostat, repair or replace radiator and water pump, fan drives, DCA treatment filters, air intercoolers and oil coolers.
  • Drive: Repair and replace drive shaft, differential, axel, manual, automatic and sophisticated computer-controlled transmission, clutches, transfer cases, power take-off systems, transmission reversers, all-wheel drive steering axels and final drives.
  • Electrical: Repair or replace fuses, batteries, lights, instruments, warning devices, controls and switches, computer controls, modules, alternators, starters, and defective cables and wiring.
  • Exhaust and Emission Control: Replace mufflers, manifolds, catalytic converters, turbochargers, blowers and pipes.
  • Hydraulic: Repair or replace pumps, hoses, valves, winches and cylinders
  • Air: Repair or replace compressors, air dryers, brake valves, air tanks and hoses.
  • Steering and Suspension Systems: Align and balance wheels, repair or replace tie rods, ball joints, gear boxes, shock absorbers, springs, steering linkage, kingpins, power steering, hoses, pumps, walking beam suspension and air suspensions.
  • Coupling Devices: Adjust, repair, inspect and/or replace fifth wheel hitches and pintle hitches.
  • Maintain service logs and records of maintenance on vehicles and motorized equipment.
  • Keep tools, equipment and work area clean, organized and in good working condition.
  • Must ensure a solid understanding of, and comply with the principles of the company’s Code of Ethics.
  • Must examine situations in light of the principles of the Code of Ethics.
  • Other mechanic and shop duties as required.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred
  • Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician.
  • Class 5 Drivers License.
