Position Overview:

IHS has launched a first of it’s kind First Responder Mental Health Program. As an integral member of the interdisciplinary assessment and treatment team the Occupational Therapist (OT) will play a key role in the triaging, assessment and treatment of individuals referred to IHS from the WSIB. They will work alongside psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health clinicians, and kinesiologists to determine what the client needs are clinically to make a full functional recovery, as well as liaise with external community healthcare providers and insurers to ensure a safe transition from the program to the community.

The role will work closely with clients, customers and other front-line clinicians to deliver a high quality, evidence-based program that focuses on returning clients to function and reducing impairment and disability – all in an innovative environment.

What you’ll do each day:

  • Participate in interprofessional assessments to identify psychological impairment and make treatment and return to work (RTW) recommendations.
  • Provide 1:1 and group treatment as part of a interprofessional team.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary rounds to discuss challenge cases and identify solutions.
  • Provide in-depth clinical reports that assist with case management.
  • Work with external groups including insurers and employers.

Educational Requirements:

  • Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario required.
  • Provides Occupational Therapy services in keeping with the College guidelines and Essential Competencies, for clients with deficits in areas of occupational performance.
  • Membership with Ontario Society of Occupational Therapists preferred.
  • Minimum three years of clinical experience working with adults with commonly seen psychological disorders e.g., Depression, Anxiety and PTSD.

Qualifications:

  • Solid mental health experience with competency in delivering prolonged exposure.
  • Knowledge and experience with various trauma treatment modalities.
  • Experience working effectively within an interprofessional model.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to effectively interact with clients and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to be flexible and willingness to provide a variety of tasks as required for the smooth functioning of the program.
  • Comfort balancing the needs of multiple “customers” and stakeholders whose opinions at times can be divergent and navigating successful outcomes that are evidence informed.
  • Demonstrates flexibility and adapts to change and variety on the job (e.g., effectively perform job during unexpected situations or changing conditions).
  • Must possess excellent organizational, time management and critical thinking skills.
  • Experience providing services with a strong quality improvement focus to third party payers including preferred.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement and evaluation.
  • Contributes to the overall vision/mandate of the Program.
  • Supervision of students as required.
