Summary of Duties
We currently have a Temporary Full Time opportunity for an Occupational Therapist to cross cover Acute Care areas as part of the Resource Team at Sunnybrook.
The Resource Team occupational therapist (OT) is a new and innovative position at Sunnybrook designed to give the OT a broad range of skills and knowledge to practice in a number of areas within acute care areas. In response to the COVID 19 pandemic we are specifically seeking an occupational therapist who will also work, if required, in our new provincially sponsored Mobile Health Unit (MHU) or temporary field hospital. It is an ideal opportunity for an occupational therapist looking to work in acute care across multiple programs or to explore other career paths. The Resource Team is an exciting and dynamic environment for OT staff, offering support through a variety of continuing education, career laddering and professional development opportunities at Sunnybrook.
The Resource Team OT will be deployed to various unit/s in response to changing patient and staffing needs. S/he will be a champion in promoting excellent patient care while also demonstrating exceptional leadership, communication, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills. S/he will participate in professional development and reflective practice as well as quality improvement initiatives in the organization. The Resource Team OT will be a part of the inter-professional team providing care that supports the principles of Person-Centered Care and the vision, mission and values of SHSC.
Summary of Duties
- Contribute to the assessment and interventions of patients with acute medical/ surgical ward level needs, with expertise in assessment and discharge planning focused on functional cognition, orientation and insight-building, early mobilization, falls risk, ADLs/IADLs and reducing risks for return to community living.
- Collaborate with patients, families and team members to optimize patient functioning that facilitates effective patient discharges.
- Act as an occupational therapy expert resource for staff, students, and other healthcare providers.
- Maintain and upgrade knowledge and skills through continuing education and professional development.
- Practice in accordance with COTO standards for practice.
- Maintain accurate workload measurement data.
Qualifications/Skills
- Registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario required
- Membership in CAOT and/or OSOT
- Minimum 1 year acute care experience required
- Breadth of expertise with patient populations, including General Internal Medicine, Oncology, Cardiology, Trauma and ICU a strong asset
- Cognitive assessment experience required
- Completed certification for Montreal Cognitive Assessment an asset
- Strong commitment to inter-professional collaboration, to facilitate an excellent patient care experience
- Demonstrated leadership and strong communication, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills
- Commitment to clinical excellence and use of Best Practices
- Demonstrated commitment to Person-Centred Care concept and principles
- Ability to demonstrate reflective practice
