Position Title: Operations & Projects Specialist

Team and Location: STaR – Calgary, AB

Starting Minimum Salary from: $90,000/year

Position Summary:

At Parkland, we leverage a network of terminals and transloads across North America to optimize our supply chain and provide maximum efficiency and flexibility to our customers.

Reporting to the Operations Manager – Canada, this highly interactive role coordinates and manages the field activities of Parkland’s terminal and transload operations.

The successful candidate will fulfill business objectives and align best practices at these facilities, overseeing components of labour, facility, equipment, and regulatory management along with various other operations-related activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Continuously drive the internal safety culture. Be an advocate for worker safety and risk management related to field operations.
  • Participate and align with all internal initiatives related to operational excellence, including Parkland’s continuous improvement program (POEMs).
  • Conduct operational safety audits and risk assessments, including the management of corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support maintenance project management activities including (including planning, scoping, budgeting, implementing, executing, and reporting especially as related to site start-ups, regulatory research, logistics etc. as required).
  • Administer and oversee continuous improvement initiatives to operating processes.
  • Ensure company assets are maintained according to manufacturer and safety standards.
  • Partner with the management team to build and maintain key stakeholder relationships related to Parkland’s terminals and assets (vendors, residents, emergency services, Government & regulatory agencies etc.).
  • Enforce policies and procedures related to safe and efficient terminal and transload operations.
  • Report on, investigate, follow up, and create corrective actions for any incidents occurring at Parkland terminals in a timely fashion.
  • Assist in the vendor selection and management process for site maintenance and construction activities, which includes analysis, assessment, selection, development, and set-up.
  • Code and pay vendor invoices in a timely manner.
  • Complete monthly Operations reporting as required.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Post-secondary education or equivalent business experience is required.
  • 2-7 years’ experience in operations or logistics.
  • Strong understanding of operational processes and regulatory frameworks for worker safety and environment including experience with safety audits and operational liability mitigation.
  • Knowledge and experience with vendor contracting and management.
  • Proven experience in budgeting, cost control, cost reporting, and internal controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop project plans and manage projects.
  • Strong written and verbal skills supported by proven experience in business presentations.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent computer skills, ability to manage large amounts of data and information.
  • Proven ability to work well in cross-functional teams and independently with limited supervision.
  • Strong Excel skills are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and thrive in a high-volume, fast-paced environment; adjusting to changing and conflicting demands, responsibilities and issues.
  • Enthusiastic learner with an entrepreneurial spirit and demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced and evolving work environment.
  • Ability to manage timelines, and produce quality deliverables.
  • Operations Excellence Management System (OEMS), experience would be an asset.
  • An understanding or hands-on experience in machinery operations, fluid power, or gas pressure dynamics is an asset.
