Job description: The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) is a charitable organization that supports women, girls and children at risk, involved in or affected by the justice system. Our programs work to break the cycle of poverty, addiction, mental illness, homelessness and crime.

Located in Abbotsford, the Firth program provides a continuum of live-in services for women with substance use concerns. Up to 6 women are provided non-medical detox services for up to one week, with support from Fraser Health medical staff.

Firth also provides up to an additional 17 women with 30 days of support-recovery in which to stabilize while abstaining from substance use; and 3-5 months of structured support recovery. Support workers are responsible for case planning, group facilitation, linkage with community resources, transition planning, and the day to day running of the facility.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the overall functioning of the substance use treatment program and the residents
  • Establish rapport and provide a warm, safe supportive environment for women
  • Record all activities and interactions with participants as part of the ongoing case management
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Monitor the day-to-day operations of residence to ensure quality control for all equipment and maximum cleaning effectiveness in adherence to licensing regulation

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • A Diploma in the Care Aid field plus a minimum of one years’ experience in a bed-based environment, preferably with substance use services or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Registered Care Aid designation is required
  • Understanding of substance use and mental health
  • Experience working in a licensed facility is an asset

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS

  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Food Safe Level 1 and Standard First-aid with CPR-C
  • Evidence of a Tuberculosis Test and compliance with the TB Control Program
  • Doctor’s Note of fitness required
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Vulnerable Sector Search)
  • Enhanced Security Screening required
  • Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.
