Under the guidance of the Operations Supervisor, the Powerline Technician – Service plays a critical role in the construction, operation, and maintenance of our Transmission and Distribution systems. The position adheres to company standards, the Alberta Utility Code, and regulatory requirements. Additionally, this role focuses on delivering excellent customer service, mentoring apprentices, and supporting new employees.

What You Get to Do:
- Oversee the construction, operation, and maintenance of power lines and substations.
- Perform system switching and emergency response, adhering to Electrical Operations Standards.
- Supervise contracted labor and support electrical technicians.
- Respond to customer service requests and handle power quality issues.
- Participate in community activities and address customer complaints.
- Maintain safety and environmental standards, conducting safety audits.
- Participate in safety meetings and apply company policies.
- Coordinate high-load movements and oversee the installation of electrical meters.
- Maintain records, software tools proficiency, and take on temporary assignments as needed.
- Mentor apprentices and co-workers, aligning with personal and team objectives.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Journeyman Powerline Technician Certificate.
- Eligibility for or possession of an Interprovincial Red Seal.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in a Powerline apprenticeship program.
- Valid Class 5 vehicle operator’s license, with the ability to obtain Class 1 or Class 3 Operator’s License.
- Valid First Aid Certificate.
- Previous on-call and troubleshooting experience preferred.
- Strong track record of safe work practices, verified by a driver’s abstract.
- Experience in live line techniques, including bare hand, sticks, and 25kV rubber glove work is preferred.
- Demonstrated ability in training apprentices and in team and individual performance development.
- Basic computer skills are an asset.

An expectation of the Powerline Technician – Service position is to provide after-hours stand-by duties. As such, you will be required to maintain a residence within the established service point boundary for Spirit River, AB to meet after-hours service coverage requirements.
