Job description: Sheridan faculty provide academic leadership to programs and courses within their areas of expertise and contribute to the creation of a learning-centred environment where students can develop to their full potential. They also contribute to College, Faculty, and program excellence by collaborating on a variety of initiatives such as new program development, applied research and alternative delivery strategies. Within this context of inspiring innovation and excellence, the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences is currently seeking a part-time Professor for Politics.

Sheridan is looking for outstanding individuals to join our faculty team in the School of Social and Life Sciences to teach courses in the Social Sciences (Politics). These courses are offered as electives to students in degrees, diplomas, and certificates. Applicants require a specialization in the areas of: Politics.

Sheridan professors are responsible for developing an effective learning environment for students while respecting their diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Delivering course curriculum in classroom and online, which includes ensuring student awareness of course objectives, approaches and evaluation techniques;
  • Evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the students’ work within assigned courses;
  • Developing individualized instruction and multi-media presentations, incorporating technology into the learning process where applicable in accordance with the course learning outcomes and curriculum provided;
  • Attending periodic faculty meetings.

The successful candidate(s) will also meet the following qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from Political Science, International Politics or related discipline;
  • Three to five years’ relevant professional or teaching experience preferred;
  • Practical experience using current teaching technology, including learning management systems, online instruction, video conferencing and other teaching tools in the past 3 years;
  • Experience in online teaching and digital curriculum development at the post-secondary level or equivalent experience as a trainer in industry is preferred;
  • Network of contacts with other professionals in the Sociology of Crime and Law, Global Migration, Political Sociology or Sociology of Culture fields;
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills;
  • Committed to excellence in teaching and learning and to working within a team environment.
