Why is this role important?
Reporting to the Manager, Health System Analytics, the Program Consultant is responsible for leading the planning, coordination and execution of activities for CIHI’s work on dementia, as part of an agreement with the Public Health Agency of Canada’s (PHAC) Enhanced Dementia Surveillance Initiative. This Initiative aims to address knowledge gaps in the cause, progression and stages of dementia; sociodemographic risk and protective factors for dementia; and caregivers to persons with dementia.
This role will involve planning and executing the strategic analytical, data and knowledge exchange activities in support of PHAC’s Enhanced Dementia Surveillance Initiative.
What you’ll do
1. Plans and executes activities to support development of reports and other information products in support of PHAC’s Enhanced Dementia Surveillance Initiative. Activities include carrying out background research, designing and submitting analysis plans, developing and exploring methodologies, conducting analysis, describing the findings and preparing the required analytical products (infographics, data tables, etc.)
2. Performs quantitative analyses using SAS and other analytical tools. This requires the use of analytical techniques to produce outputs from administrative databases and other sources.
3. Collaborates with CIHI program areas on the alignment and coordination of activities related to dementia, home and long-term care, and equity and population health.
4. Leads stakeholder engagement activities with PHAC and other internal and external stakeholder groups, as required.
5. Leads activities to support planning and implementation of project work plans, including reporting on status, identifying and working to mitigate risks and issues.
6. Provides leadership and guidance to staff assisting with the project. Identifies resource needs, coordinates and monitors work and performance to ensure quality is maintained.
7. Keeps abreast of current and emerging developments related to dementia and stakeholder information needs through regular engagements with PHAC and other organizations contributing to work on the Enhanced Dementia Surveillance Strategy.
8. Responsible for communication and outreach activities for PHAC-related dementia work, including the creation and delivery of briefing materials, presentations, and other materials for internal and external stakeholders. Responds to client queries and requests for information.
9. Performs other duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring to the table
- Graduate degree in population health, public policy, health sciences, social sciences, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a health-related field
- Experience using SAS to analyze administrative, clinical and/or survey data sources. Experience with R or Python programming languages is an asset.
- Knowledge of and experience working with CIHI’s home care and long-term care data
- Sound conceptual knowledge of health, the Canadian health care system, and the use of health information for planning, policy development and decision-making
- Broad knowledge of CIHI’s business, programs and activities and key stakeholders
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, facilitation, and presentation skills
- Excellent collaboration and relationship-building skills
- Ability to work within a matrix reporting relationship environment
- Strong project management skills
- Strong analytical, strategic planning and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of and experience working on dementia and caregiver research is an asset
- Fluency in English is required, bilingualism is an asset
