Your opportunity:
Under the direction of the Director of the Dunlap Institute and in close collaboration with the Lead Software Developer (at U.Toronto) and the Development Manager (at U. Alberta), the incumbent acts as the project manager for the Canadian Initiative for Radio Astronomy Data Analysis (CIRADA). CIRADA is a national project funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), aimed at converting the enormous raw data streams from next-generation radio telescopes into sophisticated digital databases that astronomers can use to make new discoveries. Key responsibilities include: ensures CFI compliance and the coordination of projects and teams; creates and monitors work plans, schedules and milestones; organizes external reviews; oversees the CIRADA budget; prepares project reports and projections for the CIRADA Science Board and Management Committee; acts as a liaison between CIRADA and other collaborating organizations, ensuring that agreements are upheld and mitigating risks; updating web pages, wikis, document archives and email lists; as well as convening and coordinating regular project meetings.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Interpreting and applying policies and procedures when making independent decisions
- Disseminating information regarding research funding programs and opportunities to the research community
- Providing detailed information on funding program administrative practices and procedures
- Developing project schedules including milestones, critical path, timelines, deliverables and reporting
- Planning components of project and organizing project documentation
- Writing and editing reports to support initiatives
- Generating specialized analyses and reports for financial planning
- Serving as a resource to others by providing (non-supervisory) job-related guidance
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in science or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum five years of recent and related experience in project management (preferred in scientific or other related field), including budget and grant management, strategic planning and reporting, and meeting logistics.
- Experience with project management software (e.g. MSProject).
- Experience in providing direction and creating work plans to ensure project milestones are met.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Windows and Mac.
- Strong analytical, organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks at the same time.
- Good written and oral communication and interpersonal skills.
Assets (Nonessential):
- Knowledge of radio astronomy or astronomical data processing.
- Knowledge of CFI grants and University’s financial and procurement policies and procedures.
