Project Manager

We are seeking a qualified, energetic employee to work as part of a collaborative, high performing team, transforming Dofasco’s world class facility with the latest solutions. We need an individual to develop and execute our technical improvement initiatives with a focus on continuous improvement and engineering best practices. The successful candidate will leverage their experience and knowledge to work with a dedicated and passionate team, on our journey while further developing and growing their technical skills.

Position Description:

We are a community of engineers that manage and support capital projects as well as manufacturing plant engineering work to sustain and improve our processes. The successful candidate will be charged with development and execution of industrial construction projects across our manufacturing business units. A variety of skills are typically required including technical, business and teamwork in both a plant and office environment.

Accountabilities:

Provide leadership throughout the company in the management of multi-discipline engineering and industrial construction projects, following the corporate Capital Investment Project Methodology.

  • Manage project teams comprising of internal and external people
  • Deliver successful project results.
  • Safety – target zero accidents during the life of the project,
  • Industrial objective and scope – ensure new facilities deliver the performance on which the business case is based,
  • Cost – control multimillion dollar budgets,
  • Schedule – plan and control multiple project activities over a period of one year or more
  • Support development of project for approval (strategy, scope, benchmarking, cost estimating, schedule)
  • Be acknowledged as an expert in Project Management, continuing to develop and refine skills.
  • Regular communications and reporting to Project Sponsor and Senior Management as appropriate.
  • Ensure that existing operating processes are not jeopardized during the execution of the project and deliver results during critical shutdowns.
  • Develop risk mitigation, constructability and contingency plans
  • Demonstrate strong working relationships internally and with external consultants, suppliers and contractors.
  • Fulfill the Health and Safety responsibilities as required by regulatory and company policy

Qualifications:

The following are required:

  • Engineering degree with 5+ years of Project Management experience
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Strong leadership skills to effectively manage multiple, diversified teams
  • Results oriented, proven self-starter with advanced problem-solving skills
  • Outstanding time management skills with the ability to multi-task and work on several projects with competing priorities
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, report writing and oral presentation skills
  • A continuous improvement mindset for both personal development and corporate sustainability
  • General knowledge of manufacturing and reliability processes
  • Well-developed computer skills in all major software applications including either MSProject or Primavera
  • Able to work in a group environment, as well as independently with minimum supervision

The following are assets:

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) designation or equivalent
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P. Eng.) in the Province of Ontario, or fully eligible for registration as a P.Eng. as defined by Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)
  • Experience in the steel industry

Work Environment:

  • Office environment with frequent plant work.
  • This position is currently eligible for remote work due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In the future, this position may be eligible to work remote on an ad hoc or part time basis.

Hours of Work:

  • Normal hours of work are daytime, Monday to Friday (8 hours per day, plus lunch) with occasional extended hours as required due to periods of peak workloads
  • Flexibility to determine workday start and end times, to fit personal needs
  • Part-time remote work (up to 2 days per week)
