The Public Health Resource Nurse works as part of a multi-disciplinary team responsible for provincial immunization programs, specific communicable disease surveillance and investigation, provincial communicable disease control policy and procedure, consultation, education and research. This role acts as a clinical resource for nurses and other public health care providers and provides information to internal/external sources based upon specialized theory/practice.

What you’ll do

  • Participate and assist with the planning, developing and evaluating based on specialized theory and practice for the delivery of communicable disease control (CDC) programs and immunization programs by drafting and revising provincial guidelines and standards of practice, collaborating with medical director, portfolio leads and other team members, and reviewing literature, evaluating program outcomes, conducting research and consulting with subject matter experts.
  • Assist the Senior Practice Leader with program activities and optimal use of resources through methods such as participating in the implementation of program planning, suggesting changes in program implementation to Manager, drafting objectives and indicators for Immunization and related CDC programs, and providing feedback to the Manager on the feasibility of the interventions required for policy, procedure and program implementation as requested.
  • Provide formal and informal consultations through methods such as problem solving with Public Health Nursing Leaders regarding communicable disease control and immunization program implementation issues and initiatives.
  • Provide program support to public health, private and acute care physicians and nurses, and web site users of the Provincial Communicable Disease Control Policy Manual by acting as a clinical resource using specialized theory, and providing consultation and problem solving. Draft guidelines and educational materials. Write technical content of educational and informed consent materials for the public.
  • Perform education through a variety of means including written material and web site content for various audiences including groups and individuals. Prepare and update the syllabus and course content for immunization competency and renewal of competency.
  • Participate in identifying and prioritizing nursing research for the Communicable Diseases and Immunization Service. Assist in development and implementation of the research proposal, analysis of results and publishing of findings. Present research results at conferences and seminars.

What you bring

  • Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as an RN with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
  • A minimum of three (3) years recent related public health nursing experience that involves drafting guidelines and standards of practice,
  • One (1) years’ experience of responsibility for communicable disease control and Epidemiology program(s), or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with educational techniques.
  • Solid knowledge of public health nursing with a particular emphasis on immunization programs and communicable disease prevention.
