The Queen’s BioMechatronics Team (QBMeT) is a multidisciplinary team that designs and manufactures wearable bionic systems to improve the human body by analyzing and enhancing human motions. The prototypes are designed for use in nearly any industry or application including construction, medicine, and emergency services.

Position Description

Chief Technical Officers tasks will include the oversight of the team’s progress and aiding general members in designing and building the various mechanical and electrical elements of the exoskeletal devices.

Responsibilities

  • Stay informed about the technical requirements and timelines of all competitions.
  • Develop project plans with sub-system managers that include sub-system requirements, scope, competition timeline and system budgets.
  • Identify roadblocks and barriers for project deliverables, develop mitigation strategies and alternative actions for these roadblocks.
  • Alongside the Co-Captain, hold exec meetings and facilitate communication between sub teams.
  • Conduct technical reviews of projects and solutions to evaluate their feasibility.
  • Ensures all competitions requirements are met.

Requirements

  • Experience on a design team, or within a management role for the Engineering Society. Prior experience as a member of QBMeT is ideal.
  • CTO’s should have experience with elements of electrical, computer and mechanical engineering. This may include experience with hardware design, soldering, electrical power systems, git, C/C++, python, Matlab, Simulink, CAD, and 3D printing.
  • Strong written communication skills. Applicants may benefit from experience writing formal reports, grants, process documents, etc.
  • Organization and time management skills. The CTO’s should be self-driven and detail oriented.
  • Experience with project management, project management tools, and leadership.
  • Ability to build appropriate environments to foster talent, innovation, and delivery of effective development strategies.
