Job title: Registered Nurse
Job description: Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Registered Nurse working in RESSCU accepts privileges and responsibilities of authority, accountability and autonomy for patient care and professional development. The RN will provide patient-centered nursing care for oncology patients based on the values of respect, caring, innovation and accountability. As part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team, the RN will interact with a Nurse Practitioner, General Practitioners in Oncology (GPOs), Oncologists, specialized Oncology Nurses, Allied Health professionals, diagnostic services, the Emergency Department, inpatient units at JHCC and CCAC. Nursing care is provided for patients and their families based upon competencies of expert oncology symptom management, navigating the system, maintaining professional practice, and through collaborative and evidence-based nursing practice. RESSCU nurses are also responsible for actively participating in brachytherapy procedures that require conscious sedation and other nursing skills as support to the radiation team.
Qualifications
1. Current Certificate of Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario as a Registered Nurse
2. Minimum 2 years Nursing experience (within the last two years) in the care of oncology patients
3. Minimum 1 year experience with sedation/recovery within the last 5 years
4. CPO and/or current ECG interpretation certification (or willingness to obtain within 3 months of hire) with ongoing recertification Mandatory
5. Demonstrated ability in acute care skills (e.g. IV therapy, oxygen therapy/oximetry, medication administration, catheter
insertion), patient assessment, teaching and counseling
6. Current CON(C) certification
7. Successful completion of Registered Nurse Physical Assessment Course, or equivalent
8. Current BCLS and ACLS certification with ongoing-re-certification mandatory
9. Nursing experience in the care of patients receiving systemic and radiation therapy
10. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interprofessional team
11. Demonstrated ability in acute care skills, patient assessment, teaching and counseling
12. Demonstrated leadership, organizational, critical thinking, interpersonal and communication skills
13. Must be able to wear lead aprons for long periods of time (aprons are approximately 15-20 pounds in weight, worn for cases 1-3 hours in length)
14. BScN considered an asset
