An exciting opportunity to work at full scope of practice on a busy Acute General Medical and Medical/Psychiatry Inpatient Unit at the Peter Lougheed Centre. The medical/psychiatry service is a unique care model to the PLC and provides a multi-disciplinary integrated approach to the treatment of patients with concurrent medical and psychiatric illnesses in order to better address the needs of this population. As a RN on our unit you will have an opportunity to strengthen knowledge and skills while practicing to full scope of practice. You will be able to effectively provide leadership to others, work well within a multidisciplinary team setting and have the ability to work independently. The RN on Unit 43 is expected to actively participate in quality improvement initiatives set out by the unit quality council. You will be required to care for patients who at times can become agitated, aggressive and unpredictable. You must be able to de-escalate patients and respond appropriately. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate: decision making, critical thinking, organization and conflict resolution skills; interpersonal and communication skills; build and maintain relationships with patients, families and the interdisciplinary team; patient teaching, advocacy and patient and family centered care; show initiative and independence; be adaptable and flexible in a changing environment; and foster positive relationships in a team environment. Other unit specific duties include collaboration of care with the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and/or Health Care Aide (HCA) and other members of the multidisciplinary team. Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour – $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Administration Certificate (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0) Additional Required Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to work with a large multi-disciplinary team. Charge nurse experience. Strong communication skills essential. Demonstrated ability to work at full scope of practice. Completion of med/psych classes. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with patients with complex behaviours, dementia, addiction and mental health conditions. Experience on U43 preferred and MedPsych skilled. “See the Person” course. NVCI certification (within the last 2 years). Collaborative Problem Solving. Current N95 Fit Test and “It’s Your Move” certifications. Experience using the following: Connect Care.
