This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities

The Registered Nurse (RN) utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking and problem solving skills to provide holistic care to individuals, families, groups, communities and populations across the life span.

He or she is responsible for the overall coordination and direction of nursing care and for providing clinical leadership–particularly in complex or unpredictable patient/client care settings. This person has the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to provide competent, evidenced based nursing practice.

The RN is accountable for the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of the plan of care to achieve patient/client outcomes and works as a member of a collaborative care team to achieve these desired outcomes.

The RN supports the development of students and colleagues through acting as a preceptor and providing ongoing mentorship.

He or she contributes to the efficient and effective functioning of the unit, coordination of patient care and staffing.

The RN accepts responsibility for maintaining and continually enhancing competencies through ongoing professional development, including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality activities. Additionally, he/she practices according to the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics for Registered Nurses, the Nova Scotia College of Nurses Standards of Nursing Practice, specialty standards as applicable and the policies and procedures of the Nova Scotia Health Authority.

The RN is responsible and accountable for his/her nursing practice and conduct as defined by the College of Registered Nurses of Nova Scotia and for ensuring that his/her registration is current and valid.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program and registered with the Nova Scotia College of Nurses (NSCN)
  • Minimum of two years recent oncology experience
  • BLS-C (HCP) certification
  • Ambulatory nursing experience an asset
  • CNA Oncology Nursing Certification an asset or demonstrated commitment to complete within 2 years
  • Current knowledge of oncology treatments and their effects an asset
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and decision making skills
  • Up to date clinical skills
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

If no applicants meet the qualifications specified above, consideration may be given to nurses with a minimum of two years recent experience in medicine and/or another ambulatory setting, or less than 2 years experience with a focus in oncology during nursing studies.

Hours of Work

  • Long Assignment Full-time Position; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Beginning June 20, 2021 with an expected end date of October 23, 2022
  • These dates are subject to change

Salary Information

$35.0366 – $41.4138 hourly

$42.8633 hourly with 25 years RN experience
