Job description: Your Opportunity:
Unit 5G4 is an 18 bed unit accepting patients from birth to 18 years of age. Patient populations on 5G4 may include general pediatric medicine, neurology, metabolic, nephrology, pulmonary/respiratory, mental health and over flowing oncology, hematology, orthopedics, plastic surgery and general surgery. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse (RN) provides leadership in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for the mentioned populations in accordance with both, University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) and Stollery Children’s Hospital, policies and procedures. In the role you will utilize nursing processes through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making; while providing active education and mentorship for peers, students, patients and families. Your practice will provide holistic, professional, safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. Within the Medicine Program at the Stollery there are opportunities for professional growth, which include participation on unit based safety/education sessions, senior skill certifications, unit quality councils, as well as broader AHS initiatives. Staff within the Medicine Program will be cross-trained to support both medicine units 5G4 and 4E4. You will be requested to cross train to other pediatric inpatient units within the Stollery.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:
Successfully pass the Stollery PEARS course (Pediatric Emergency Assessment, recognition and Stabilization Course), completed in orientation. Successfully pass the Stollery Medication Administration exam (pass=90%). Exceptional interpersonal communication skills. Excellent written and verbal communication. Demonstrated initiative, accountability, problem solving, organizational skills and effective time management. Strong decision making, assessment and critical thinking skills. Ability to adapt and work within a fast paced, and time sensitive environment with competing responsibilities. Preferred Qualifications:
Preference will be given to the candidate with minimum 2 years acute pediatric experience. Experience with children with tracheostomies, peritoneal dialysis, and medical fragile patient populations considered an asset. Connect Care training and experience considered an asset.
