The Role
The Research Operations Analyst role within the Research Operations department of the Institute for Better Health facilitates strategic partnerships and collaboration enabling health research, innovation and improvement initiatives that assist in achieving the Trillium Health Partners mission of creating a new kind of healthcare for a healthier community. Operating within the established systems of internal controls the Research Operations Analyst provides a full range of function-based user centred supports to researchers, innovators, the broader THP and community partners. This is achieved through a portfolio management approach to streamlined services for programs of research innovation and improvement, including but not limited to: budget review, development, analysis and negotiation; agreement drafting, review and negotiation; project logistical and financial feasibility assessment and financial modelling; and grant and award procedural support activities related to the objectives and responsibilities of the Research Operations department. Through this role you will have the opportunity to develop meaningful relationships with teammates and stakeholders from all areas of the hospital and with external partners as we work together under a common vision and shared sense of purpose in creating a newer kind of healthcare for a healthier community.
Role Requirements
The successful candidate must demonstrate the competencies required to assume the following accountabilities and meet the following qualifications:
Accountabilities:
- Lead the review and execution of agreements which includes: project activity review, risk exposure analysis, agreement drafting and negotiation, and obtaining business decisions where necessary
- Project budget negotiation which may include project budget review, reconciliation and analysis and financial modelling
- Undertake risk assessments and propose actions and contractual terms to mitigate risk
- Understand and interpret relevant regulatory and policy requirements as they relate to projects.
- Advise on and clarify terms of agreements with external and internal stakeholders and decision-makers as required
- Facilitate institutional compliance with applicable research regulations, guidelines and policies through agreement review and negotiation
- Support stakeholders through, and provide direction regarding the Research Operations processes
- Liaise with key stakeholders (Research Ethics Board, management, researchers) as appropriate and required
- Support the agreement execution, budget negotiation, study feasibility and grants and awards management processes
- Foster a professional, collaborative and supportive working relationship with Stakeholders in order to provide the highest level of service
- Function at a high level with minimal supervision
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in the sciences with relevant research exposure and experience, or bachelor’s degree in another relevant/suitable area with relevant research exposure and experience
- Minimum 2-4 years’ experience working in health research operations, or related field
- 3-5 years’ experience drafting and negotiating various types of research agreements an asset
- Fundamental knowledge of existing health research regulations, applicable legislation, guidelines, policies and best practice.
- Demonstrated ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders including scientists, administrators, industry representatives, senior management, lawyers
- Demonstrated ability to review and understand typical clinical research study documentation (protocol, consent, data collection forms and tools) with the ability to extract essential information to inform the content of research agreements
- Excellent understanding of research agreement management in a healthcare setting
- Excellent understanding of research grants and awards management in a healthcare setting
- Experience with research study financial management, including financial modeling and monitoring, preferred
- Computer literacy utilizing MS Office software applications and proficiency with word processing spread sheets and presentation software.
- Ability to analyze and interpret legal agreements/documents including analyzing issues and making appropriate recommendations.
- Ability to resolve relatively complex contractual issues, problem-solve and maintain professional composure while working under pressure of internal and external demands
- Ability to prioritize workload with excellent time management, planning and multi-tasking skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with strong writing and oral communication skills utilizing a range of communication styles as appropriate to suite the context and desired outcomes
- Excellent team player with the ability to work independently
- A keen interest in Health Research
