Job description: As Senior Estimator, you will work closely with our clients and provide a range of pre-construction services throughout the design and estimate phase. The Senior Estimator is knowledgeable in different types of construction and is able to analyze items from multiple perspectives. You will lead a talented and supportive pre-construction department, where teamwork is at the forefront. Working with limited supervision under the direction of the Chief Estimator or Department Head.

Senior Estimator Responsibilities:

Technical Knowledge

• Draw on previous experience and contacts to create a plan and lead the estimates on all sizes and types of projects
• Devise potential bid strategies for both negotiated and competitive tender projects
• Review final estimate packages to insure accuracy and completeness, prior to formal quotation
• Can create a quick order of magnitude budget for review by department head or other internal clients
• Can create and review project schedules that are meaningful and achievable
• Can provide quick reviews of take-offs, elemental budgets and trade quotes
• Looks beyond the plans at any given stage to see the complete project scope
• Understands the impacts of various bid methods and types of head contracts
• Read and understand impacts of SGC’s and division 1 specifications
• Understands insurance and bonding requirements

Risk / Cost / Profit Considerations

• Knows the subtrade market (right trades for right project, who is busy)
• Actively looks for opportunity well in advance and plans how to take advantage of opportunities
• Can talk to clients /trades / consultants without entering into negotiation but setting up advantages for Ventana during award negotiations
• Can recognize, assess, and resolve areas of risk within a project (exclusions, clarifications, and price adjustments)

Relationships and Managing people

• Maintains balances between individual goals and team goals
• Liaises with other departments within Ventana during preconstruction to identify, discuss, delegate, and cost site logistics items
• Mentors and develops team members to maximize productivity, innovation, and teamwork
• Keeps contact with PM’s during construction of successful bids to gain real time feedback on bid issues
• Prepare and participate in presentations to clients, including final negotiations
• Maintain client relationships including sourcing new work with existing clients
• Your interactions and transactions always maintain and enhance VCC’s reputation

Other

• Develop new forms, approaches, and ideas to make the department more efficient
• Perform additional assignments and research to help further the knowledge base of yourself, the department, and the company

Senior Estimator Qualifications:

• 10+ years of construction estimating experience
• Experience working in commercial, multi-family residential, industrial, and retail
• In-depth knowledge of construction materials and techniques
