Purpose:

To handle moderately to highly complex design tasks, ensuring adherence to approved design principles, standards, and templates. The role involves directing CAD Technicians, overseeing designs, and leading small projects or project phases. Additionally, it requires the preparation of detailed drawings/models, establishment of design requirements, and review of manufacturers’ or fabricators’ prints for compliance. The individual is also responsible for checking lower-level CAD work, resolving interferences, and supporting field assignments when needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Under minimal supervision, performs design tasks of moderate to high complexity involving routine calculations, analysis, and approved design principals, use of cataloged vendor information, standards, and templates.
  • Directs the work of and provides oversight for assigned CAD Technicians and Designers as applicable. Capable of leading a small project or a phase of a large project. Able to produce piping isometrics and/or orthographic plan and sections from engineered P&ID’s
  • Prepares detailed drawings/models of unusual, complex, or original design for a complete phase of a project requiring the application of theoretical and practical design knowledge.
  • Establishes design requirements for designated phases of a project. Reviews manufacturers’ or fabricators’ prints for conformance with contract specifications.
  • Checks work assigned to lower-level CAD Technicians and Designers. Reviews and resolves interferences/clashes. Supports field assignments as required.

Qualifications

What you will bring

Technical and Industry Experience:

  • Related design experience.
  • Experience with plant layout, design of piping, mechanical systems, and equipment.
  • High level of proficiency with the preparation of 2D drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Experience conducting site walk-downs, field measurement, and field support.
  • Experience within the Nuclear Power sector in Canada.
  • Eligible to obtain nuclear security and site clearances.

Education – Qualifications, Accreditation, Training:

Required:

  • Degree in Bachelors.

Preferred:

  • Strong knowledge of physical piping design principals, including piping components and specifications.
