Position Overview
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Category Management, the Senior Specialist, SCM Cat Mgt, Engineering & Construction (“Senior Specialist”) is the strategic, long term value focused technical leader to the organization for Engineering & Construction category management. Within the Category Management team, the Senior Specialist is committed to be a responsive and trusted strategic partner to the business that generates long-term sustainable value and develops a high performing team, with a culture of transparency and continuous improvement, meeting stakeholder needs, maintaining supplier relationships and managing risks.

The Senior Specialist is accountable for managing categories strategically for all Engineering & Construction. On a day-to-day basis, the Senior Specialist works closely with the Senior Specialist, Materials & Equipment as well as the Governance & Compliance and Business & Operations pillars of the Supply Chain team.

Over time, the Senior Specialist will be responsible for building out the Engineering & Construction Category Management team at Pembina.

Principal Duties and Accountabilities

  • Trusted business partner that takes an active role in setting the tone for spending the Corporation’s money wisely;
  • Partner in the transformation of Supply Chain including, but not limited to, supplier performance, achieving significant savings across categories, as well as reducing Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) including the rollout of a new operating model, development of service level agreements and enabling automation;
  • Partner with the business to develop long-term category plans for Engineering & Construction that deliver on the long-term strategic value of Supply Chain at Pembina integrating demand forecasts, global market trends, changing supplier landscape and competitive market intelligence;
  • Other key responsibilities include:
  • Assisting the development of the Category Management & Strategic sourcing process to assess opportunities and develop category profile;
  • Supplier relationship management and development with a focus on risk mitigation;
  • Management of Strategic categories;
  • Provide analytic feedback pertaining to industry and market trends spending and contracting and ensuring spending the Corporation’s money wisely;
  • Develop and maintain strong, independent working relationships with all stakeholders;
  • Integration of standards, processes and procedures to manage compliance to defined governance structure; and
  • Manage supplier relationship at right levels at the prescribed frequencies.

  • Timely and accurate management and selective key performance reporting to support business decisions in line with the Corporation’s long-range plans and continued operation within the financial guardrails;
  • Natural leader that provides guidance and overseas resources and development in the reporting areas across the Corporation while continuing to develop a deep and strong talent pool and maintain a plan for employee rotations, development, continuity, succession and engagement; as well as supporting Pembina’s diversity plan; and
  • Provide leadership to employees and continually improve overall Pembina employee culture.

  • Ensure strong working relationships with, among others, operations, engineering, planning and Pembina’s joint venture partners.

Accountability to Communities

  • Set the tone for contributing back to Pembina’s communities in a visible way; and
  • Support Pembina’s ESG initiative and Supplier Code of Conduct.

Qualifications

  • Designated SCMP or other professional (CPA, engineer, lawyer) with at least 15 years of Supply Chain and related leadership experience;
  • A deep and experienced understanding of Category Management – inclusive of understanding the demand of the business, market trends, supplier landscape, supplier performance;
  • Mindset of thinking globally and applying this locally;
  • Clear knowledge and understanding on interdependencies and relationship between strategic and transactional supply chain across functional processes;
  • Understanding of category relationships with procurement channels;
  • Understand the principles of TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) and application of appropriate lever at category and sub-category level;
  • Adept at building long-term and mutually beneficial strong partnerships with suppliers;
  • A proven people leader, who has a track record of effective performance planning and feedback, and guidance. This includes ensuring goal alignment and creating accountability with respect to corporate strategies and performance measures while maintaining a succession plan for key positions in the department;
  • Strong Supply Chain industry and best practice knowledge with an interest in increasing understanding of Pembina’s business;
  • Strong understanding of SAP S/4 including Ariba and Fieldglass and SAP Analytics Cloud;
  • Detail oriented with strong analytical skills and a quick learner who is self-motivated and able to work under tight deadlines in a continuously changing environment;
  • Genuine interest in developing employees to the best of their abilities, cooperatively leading a team to generate superior results and recognizing efforts and accomplishments in a timely manner;
  • Effective communication, organization and team building skills complemented by a strong work ethic; and
  • Passion for positive change and process improvement.
