Position Summary:

Reporting to the Goodman Cancer Institute’s Deputy Director, the Student Affairs Officer will work closely with the Sr. Communications Officer and Sr. Development Officer. The person will be responsible for the student engagement activities of the Centre by overseeing and executing the logistics for student-centered events; organizing and delivering on the Student Recruitment Fairs; managing and administering the multiple student awards; advising the GCI Student Society; offering a variety of student services that align with the Institute’s vision.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage and administer multiple student awards, scholarships, studentships and travel awards for the Instutute.
  • Plan and execute student engagement and outreach activities (conferences, symposia, fundraising events, etc).
  • Develop and deliver seminars and workshops concerning career planning services. Advise students on a variety of job search skills and interviewing techniques.
  • Manage and track student progress towards degree and post-graduation.
  • Promote engagement activities services through various media outlets; implements efforts to publicize engagement activities and promote sponsorships. Responsible for frequent website updates and social media management.
  • Maintain contact with other universities, organizations, government agencies and student representatives.
  • Provide liaison, referral, and advocacy for students as appropriate to their professional and career development efforts and to other academic or non- academic concerns.
  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate progress of support staff.
  • Take on special projects as assigned by the supervisor.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Experience in administering Finance and Student Affairs policies and procedures. Demonstrated experience with financial management including development of budgets and management of funds. Strong communication skills both written and spoken. Proven experience in leading and supervising a team of employees. Organizational skills and proven ability to work independently, problem solve and manage multiple projects. Strong analytical skills. Ability to work well under pressure in an environment with shifting priorities. Ability to work in a computerized environment (word processing, spreadsheets, databases: Banner, FIS, SIS, HRIS and Minerva; Drupal, email internet search engines and web applications).

Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 4 (fluent) on a scale of 0-4.

Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree 3 Years Related Experience /

Annual Salary: (MPEX Grade 04) $62,550.00 – $78,190.00 – $93,830.00
