Responsibilities
This position is a member of the Crisis/Urgent Care Service within the Mental Health and Addictions program of care. Reporting to the Manager of Mental Health and Addictions, the clinician provides advance level assessment, intervention, care planning, and brief follow up for crisis/urgent care clients across the lifespan, with the goal of stabilization and connection to necessary mental health and addictions services. The majority of consults are from the Emergency Department, but may also come from other services or departments both internal and external to Nova Scotia Health.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Bachelor of Nursing (consideration will be given to diploma prepared candidates who have experience working with the patient population and are able to demonstrate equivalency to a degree based on post entry level courses and experience)
- Current registration with the Nova Scotia College of Nursing (NSCN)
- Two years’ clinical experience specific to Mental Health & Addictions
- Preference will be given to applicants with experience in conducting crisis response/urgent care assessments and consultation services in emergency departments and/or mobile crisis in the community
- Post Graduate of Mental Health Program or Canadian Nurses Association Specialty Certification in MHA or willingness to obtain
- BLS-C (HCP) Certification
- Non-violent Crisis Intervention
- Valid NS Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle
- Experience in case management of high-risk clients
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred

Hours of Work
Full-time (100%) short-assignment; 75.00 hours bi-weekly.
With an anticipated start date of May 1, 2021 and an expected end date of October 31, 2021 (approximately 6 months).

Salary Information
Urgent Care/Crisis Clinician (RN03):
$36.13 – $42.44 hourly
($43.92 hourly with 25 years of RN experience).
