Responsibilities:

  • Operates main camera following instructor throughout production.
  • Focuses on course materials such as text books when displayed on set.
  • Communicates with instructor to determine order of elements and sequence of events during lecture.
  • Communicates with switcher/director via headset on upcoming segments during production.
  • Directs instructor and guests during interview segments to speak to proper camera.
  • Communicates with director/switcher to focus on students when they participate.
  • Communicates with the camera operator(s) in order to determine when to switch between the camera/video sources during live classroom presentations.
  • Discusses run-down of lecture and how/when course content is to be displayed.
  • Operates audio and video sources and switches at appropriate times between sources.
  • Operates 2nd switcher to display sources such as Document Camera and Sympodium on studio monitors and Smart Board.
  • Operates remote cameras.
  • Provides graphic/text information from character generator to appear throughout every class.
  • Ensures audio levels from all sources are monitored and balanced.
  • Operates studio lighting to ensure proper light levels for clear view of instructor, students and course materials both in house and for recording purposes.
  • Record, name and file every video production following a structured naming convention and upload to a streaming server.
  • Follow same procedure for backup encoding computer and video archive.
  • Informs instructor of any changes in technology and lets students know of any changes to the display and upload of completed lectures.
  • Instructs faculty on the proper usage of available technology and helps to integrate outside sources.
  • Gives students instruction on how and why to properly use hand-held microphones during the course of the lecture.

Qualifications:

  • Some University training/college course work or an acceptable equivalent is desirable to enhance response time in the studio and therefore enhance production values.
  • Television production experience or video training is preferred.
  • A basic knowledge of and interest in creating video images is desirable.
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Some television production skills are preferred.
  • Must be able to react quickly/knowledgeably under pressure.
  • Must be able to relate courteously with faculty/instructors/presenters, staff, students and the public.
  • Must work well in a team environment.

An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
