Job title: VP of Construction and Development – Highrises (relocation to Ottawa)

Job description: We are looking for a seasoned business executive with a high degree of knowledge in construction operations. The successful candidate will be the primary development lead for several major current multi-million and pre-development projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:

• Reports to the Owner regarding the operations of the department.
• Oversees and assumes project responsibilities from pre-construction through closeout to include but not limited to consultants and professional services providers, contractor relations, constructability, team collaboration, project schedule, reports and budgets.
• Conducts regularly scheduled meetings with project managers, assistant project managers and other team members to review general work progress, accomplishments and areas for improvement.
• Identifies and addresses areas of concern regarding potential liabilities and risk.
• Manages a team of project managers, site superintendents, estimators, construction managers and project coordinators on multiple projects in different locations.
• Assists in training and developing the team members in the skills and understanding of firm procedures, methodology and practices expected for a successful project implementation.
• Oversees capital improvement/asset preservation programs and processes at multiple sites utilizing the right measures.
• Develops relationships with consultants, contractors, vendors and evaluate their performance to ensure effective partnering relationships.
• Establishes and reports success criteria to ensure client needs are met.
• Attracts, retains, develops, succession planning and managing the development team.
• Complies with all policies and procedures, including but not limited to ethics and business practice.

Experience:

• Minimum of 7 years of overseeing development and construction of projects. Relevant diversified experience on commercial, and especially residential and high-rise related projects is a must.
• Bachelor of Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Business or related fields
• Big-picture, strategic thinker comfortable working at a detailed level with a high degree of accuracy and quality
• Superb written and verbal communication skills, professional manner and computer literacy
• A strong working knowledge of accounting and financial reporting, budgeting, scheduling and process as they relate to corporate real estate
• Extensive, proven positive experience effectively supervising, training, mentoring and evaluating several project managers at various levels within the organization or team
