Job title: Waste System Educator

The mission of the Waste Education and Outreach (WEO) team is to inform, engage, and empower Edmontonians to fully participate in the City’s waste management system. The Waste System Educator is an important part of the WEO team, supporting the organization of and assisting with the delivery of our public facing education and outreach programming.
With a focus on to be Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:
- Use materials that have already been developed to conduct student tours of Edmonton Waste Management Centre
- Assist with outreach event planning, set up, and take down including generating ideas for booths, gathering materials, and developing props and displays
- Support the WEO team in responding to public enquiries regarding The City of Edmonton’s Waste services initiatives, waste system and waste reduction strategies
- Provide direction to residents for sources of information on Edmonton’s waste system
- Maintain statistics, and collects data to support continuous improvement
- Assist with and accompany various business and organizational tours of the Edmonton Waste Management Centre, acting as a demonstrator and moderator in waste management information
- Collaborate with program leads and program coordinators to update school and general public presentations
- Stock and organize program materials
- Identify opportunities for improvement, and provide recommendations of programs
- Other related duties as required
Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
- Experience in facilitating and delivering public education programs
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing to citizens, including comfort in speaking with the general public and educating them on various City initiatives
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships that reflect a respectful and inclusive style
- Ability to take direction and work independently to meet desired outcomes
- Physical ability to safely perform the tasks of the role, including working in various weather and environmental conditions, and bending and lifting up to 25 lbs
- Skill in the use of Google Workspace (Forms, Docs, Gmail), and able to adapt to evolving technology
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver’s permit is a requirement of this position.
- Hire is dependent on Police Information check including a vulnerable sector check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton and is a requirement of this position, there may be a cost associated with this requirement
- Standard First Aid and CPR certificate required at the time of hire

Up to 2 temporary part-time positions for up to 6 months
Successful candidates may be eligible for recall in the 2024 season
Hours of Work: Up to 39.5 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance.
Salary: $18.067 – $22.361 (Hourly)
