The Application and Cloud monitoring specialist will be responsible for driving monitoring strategy and improvement in Air Canada’s cloud environments and enterprise applications. He/she is responsible to engage and interact with various technology owners, including operations and architecture to ensure that the monitoring/alerting requirements of the application and infrastructure teams are met. The specialist is also responsible to manage and support the Air Canada enterprise monitoring tool environments.
This role reports into the Senior Manager, IT and Cyber Operations.
Key Functions
Responsible for developing overall monitoring standards and strategy for Air Canada.
Coordinate with operational groups and projects to implement effective monitoring and data source gathering for use in operational alerting, downtime detection and data ingestion for analysis.
Is the thought and technical leader for Application and Cloud infrastructure monitoring.
Operationally administer the Air Canada Dynatrace environment including underlying infrastructure.
Build monitoring solutions based on use-cases provided by IT operational and design teams.
Build and maintain monitoring standards documentation including monitored components and alert thresholding to be followed across the organization.
Develop and communicate organizational objectives; inspire, motivate and train team members to follow and achieve organizational standards.
Generate reports and data analysis documents for business and IT leaders.
Lead business and technology data analysis efforts when required.
Participate in a team environment to achieve the IT and Cyber Operations departments goals.
Assist in creating and presenting financial business cases for monitoring projects.
Define and maintain methods, techniques and calculations for identifying ways to improve business/technical processes.
Qualifications
A relevant University degree/technical certification, and/or relevant experience commensurate to the role
Minimum 10 years of IT technology, operations and people leadership experience in a large company
Minimum 8 years experience with Application/Infrastructure monitoring tools
5+ years experience working with Dynatrace, Splunk, Sciencelogic or similar monitoring tools.
5+ years experience Administering or supporting Cloud environments from a major cloud provider (AWS/Azure)
3+ years of integrating monitoring tools to share data
Previous experience in managing and working with strategic partners (outsourced model)
Familiarity with ITIL and ITSM processes in general an asset.
Ability to work across multiple technical teams to set direction and priority
Experience with working within multidisciplinary and collaborative environments
Exceptional analytical, organizational and communication skills
Self-motivated and Independent worker.
Possess investigative nature and be self-motivated
Results oriented with proactive and methodical approach to problem solving
Able to multi-task and work under pressure against tight deadlines and changing priorities
Must be a team player with ability to work closely with diverse groups and working styles
Ability to establish and maintain effective business relationships
Flexibility and willingness to work extended hours, when required
