ABOUT THE ROLE

As we continue to evolve our Data & Innovation team, we are looking to hire a data-driven, innovative, and results-orientated IT Solutions Manager, Data & Integration. Reporting directly to the Manager, Data & Innovation, you will primarily be accountable for to implementing, operating, and evolving the data and integration solution landscape for TransAlta.

You will be responsible for architecting, supporting and sustainament of our enterprise data and Integration platforms, data pipeline development, and building scalable, elastic, robust, automated data architecture and processes. This role will deliver cross-functional data and application integration features and patterns.

This is a full-time salaried position.

ACCOUNTABILITIES / RESPONSIBILTIES

As the IT Solutions Manager, Data & Integration, you will be responsible for the following but not limited to:

  • Lead team to ingest, prepare, transform, model and then support data pipelines for our teams of Analysts and Data Scientists
  • Own and drive technical solution strategy and roadmap for domain/area of scope
  • Manage and direct the solutioning team responsible for technical delivery (and support as required)
  • Holistically evaluate the architecture and use deep technical expertise to understand the business impact of technical landscape, recommending and implementing new solutions, ways of working and technologies to meet business requirements
  • Assess progress of data requirements, integration, analysis, and modeling related workstreams across multiple projects, assess interdependencies, and provide recommendations for reallocation of resources, prioritization, sequencing of activities and/or approach as necessary to meet goals
  • Develop solution plans across full product/solution lifecycle to balance cost, risk and value to the business
  • Lead continuous development and improvement and drive solution/operational simplification through automation
  • Create innovative and practical designs that account for the end-to-end technical solution of the products, in line with the business strategy and objectives and within the context of TransAlta’s technology environment
  • Develop and manage various reports and scorecards measuring the status and quality of delivery results of the program
  • Improve operations by conducting systems / data analysis and recommending changes in workflow and procedures
  • Translates new and existing data & integration requirements into actionable requirements for delivery via business intelligence applications and tools
  • Responsible for maintaining the enterprise data model
  • Assess and develop data requirements, integration, analysis, and modelling related workstreams across programs and functional units
  • Act as thought leader influencing processes and tools to advance and evangelize DevOps, DataOps and Lean culture and processes across Data Engineering
  • Working with the business to ensure data management, data governance roles and responsibilities are clearly defined and communicated
  • Monitor quality and progress of the project and reviews and develops due diligence to confirm the developed solution align with architectural design
  • Ensure relevant technical strategies, policies, standards, and practices are applied correctly across Technology programs/projects and products.
  • Define and operate an agile-based work intake and request management workflow, focused on maximizing velocity, improving quality and reducing backlog
  • Demonstrate balance between technology and business to be able to communicate solutions, ideas, suggestions to a variety of stakeholders effectively

ABOUT YOU

We are looking for the following must-have qualifications and experience to be successful in this role:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Governance, Information Security, or related field
  • Minimum of six years’ experience working within a technical management function, data governance or business intelligence preferably in an international organization or multilateral environment with two years’ experience leading a data and/or integration program
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in data analysis and writing SQL
  • Strong agile project management skills. Certified Scrum Master.
  • Extensive experience with cloud platforms and solutions, especially Microsoft Azure
  • Practical experience in the implementation or use of document and/or records management systems such as SharePoint or similar technology
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally on data requirements, integration, analysis, modelling and reporting
  • Deep understanding of data management best practices, including ETL, data modeling, data management, file management, reference data management, etc.
  • Proficiency with sophisticated analytics tools, programming languages or visualization platforms
  • Able to identify multiple approaches to problem solving and recommend the best-case solution
  • Deep technical knowledge of solution and technical architecture to solve business problems and work closely with other IT teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Proven ability to work directly with users and management to gather and understand requirements, provide status updates, build good relationships and rapport
  • Able to recognize industry technology trends and emerging technologies, understands how they apply to TransAlta and can drive their adoption into our organization
  • Well versed experience in business analysis, IT standards, procedures, policies formulation, project management, quality management, risk analysis and management, and strategic planning
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal communication and organizational skills in order to operate as a leading member of global, distributed teams that deliver quality services and solutions
