Job Details
Position Title: Coordinator, Peer Wellness Education (PWE) and Programs
Status: Full-Time Support
Hours: 35 hours per week
Faculty/Department: Student Success and Engagement
Campus/Location: North Campus
Salary: Support Payband H – (Min) $33.05 – (Max) $38.37
What you will do:
Reporting to the Manager, Community Wellness Education and Programs, the Coordinator, Peer Wellness Education (PWE) and Programs works to conceptualize, develop, implement, deliver, and evaluate peer-to-peer programming for students which support positive mental health, harm reduction, social-emotional learning, and suicide prevention (e.g., Peer Active Listening – building a sense of community and belonging, listening free of judgment, and making space for discussing challenges related to mental health, disability, and overall wellbeing).
Working as a member of a cross-functional team, the role liaises collaboratively with campus stakeholders to ensure programs are delivered and that these programs meet institutional objectives.
The position will work closely with the SWEL leadership team to develop key strategic messages and execute an integrated communications plan to support portfolio activities and wellness initiatives at Humber College and the University of Guelph Humber (hereby referred to as the College). The position will also collaborate with other stakeholder groups to embed SWEL messaging into other campus-wide communication platforms as necessary.
Qualifications
What you bring to the role:
Education
- Successful completion of a university degree in an academic discipline that is transferable to the role (e.g., education, psychology, public health, health promotion, social work)
Experience and Skills
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience.
- Knowledge of intersectional, anti-oppressive and anti-racist practices relating to mental health, harm reduction, social-emotional learning, and suicide prevention.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, implement, and evaluate student peer programs which translate student development, health promotion, and health behaviour change theory to practice.
- Excellent knowledge of promising practices in health and wellness education, including traditional instruction, on-line learning, video, social media, web, and print. Strong understanding of program efficacy in peer programming.
- Excellent knowledge of student-centered and trauma-informed professional practice.
- Excellent knowledge of best practices in program development, implementation, evaluation, and course development and delivery.
- Knowledge of Canadian Mental Health Standard, Okanagan Charter, and relevant privacy legislation (i.e, FIPPA, PHIPA).
- Excellent conflict resolution, interpersonal, client relationship, and communication skills (oral, written, and presentation).
- Excellent supervisory, team management and leadership skills.
- Excellent project management skills, including budget administration.
- Ability to engage and build rapport with various stakeholders and members of the college community.
- Good knowledge of principles and practices of administration in a post-secondary educational environment.
- Proficient in the use of word processing, and spreadsheet applications, e-mail, internet searching, and website management.
