Course description: This practicum course is a requirement for all students pursuing the LLE MEd Field in Language Teaching, and is usually taken after they have completed the first two terms in their program. The purpose of this course is to provide students with practical language teaching experience. The course comprises a placement of a minimum of 20 hours in a professional language education setting. During their placement, students will observe and shadow their host teacher, and then carry increasing levels of responsibility for language teaching. The placement is overseen by an experienced language teacher in the practicum setting and the instructor teaching the course. In addition to their teaching placement, students will have a few classes with the instructor focused on equipping them with the pedagogical knowledge and skills required for their placement, such as lesson planning, language learning theories and methodologies, materials development, and teacher reflexivity.

Minimum Qualifications: Candidates should demonstrate mastery of the subject area. Mastery may be demonstrated, but not limited to, practical work in the area or scholarly publications establishing expertise in the area.

Description of duties:
The instructor for the LTF Practicum will carry out the following duties:
- Preparing the syllabus for the course
- Coordinating with our partner schools and host teachers on the logistical aspects, organization and scheduling of the practicum placements
- Preparing, organizing and teaching classes that engage students in the scholarship and pedagogy related to the course
- Observing and providing mentorship to students during their practicum placements
- Being available to students seeking assistance during their placements
- Corresponding with host teachers to support students during their placements
- Evaluating and providing feedback to students on their course assignments
