Job Summary:
Restaurant Brands International, home of Tim Hortons® Burger King®, and Popeyes®, and Firehouse Subs is looking for an individual who is passionate and has experience translating business priorities to government and public audiences as well as connecting the dots to make government relations more impactful and effective.
This Manager of Public Affairs will have the unique opportunity to shape a government and stakeholder engagement strategy for Quebec as well as support policy files with the federal government. The Manager will guide and execute against day-to-day activities associated with external government stakeholder relations, working closely with franchised restaurant owners, industry associations and the field team.
The ideal candidate is a Quebec based public policy professional who thinks critically, , and has experience and a track record working in government. An analytical researcher with in-depth knowledge of government process is a must along with relationship-building and networking skills. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of building new strategies and processes to engage government, excellent writing and presentation skills, attention to detail, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and experience in policy development.
Core Responsibilities:
Analysis, execution, issues management & stakeholder management
- Assess emerging provincial, federal and Quebec-based municipal legislative and regulatory activities and evaluate impacts on the QSR industry.
- Connect business strategy to public policy goals
- Develop and implement government relations and stakeholder relations strategies to respond to emerging issues or to advance issues of priority to restaurant owners
- Advocate on critical issues, both independently and as part of coalition or association efforts
- Communicate to and lead owner policy working groups
- Build strong relationships and work cross-functionally to keep a pulse on business priorities
- Advise senior leaders on the most effective way to deliver messages to government, industry and franchisee audiences
Education and Qualifications:
- Full-time, Montreal based GR/ Public Policy professional
- Reports to Director, Public Affairs
- 5+ years of government or relevant experience – private sector experience an asset
- Must be bilingual
- The position is based out of Tim Hortons Montreal office and is a hybrid position
- Bachelor’s degree in policy development, political science or related field/experience
- Experience in the restaurant, retail, and/or hospitality industry an asset
- Examples of driving policy change and working cross industry within organization
- Proven ability to craft and communicate a compelling message/tell a story to government audiences
- High attention to detail and a creative thinker with proven problem-solving skills
- Team player with a proactive and strong interpersonal skills to work in a collaborative environment
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines and objectives
- Ability to synthesize large volumes of information and translate into clear and concise messaging
- Ability to travel on an as-needed basis to the corporate head office in Toronto, government meetings in Quebec City and Ottawa, and other travel as needed.
