Job Description

What you will be doing:

Reporting to the General Manager, with a dotted line to the Regional Director, Talent & Culture, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service
  • Lead and oversee the day to day operation of the Talent & Culture Department as well as play a critical role in the implementation of the hotel’s human resources and operational strategy
  • Be a key champion of our Employee Value Proposition by driving and creating robust engagement, recruitment and retention strategies
  • Assess organizational needs, develop aligned human resource solutions and implement strategies in the areas of employee relations, compensation and benefits, recognition, administration and Colleague wellness
  • Ensure a positive living environment for our Colleagues by supporting and working with the Housing department
  • Promote positive Colleague relations through an environment that encourages open communication, trust, mutual respect and fun
  • Communicate the Company’s Code of Ethics/CSR Charter, monitor behaviours of others and address any behaviour which is not in line with our Code of Ethics/CSR Charter
  • Model and move forward the Hotel’s and Company’s DE&I strategies by supporting diversity in the selection and management of talent ensuring equality of treatment based on competencies
  • Provide a safe working environment by ensuring local regulations are upheld for workplace health and safety
  • Ensure compliance and provide advice to leaders on all employment issues in accordance with the statutory requirements
  • Conduct and lead annual salary/merit review process; in keeping with Company policies and procedures
  • Negotiate with the union and settle industrial disputes or labour relations issues with respect and professionalism
  • Assist Departmental Leaders and Senior Managers with the development of specific action plans to address issues and concerns identified in Colleague feedback
  • Ensure all Learning & Development opportunities presented by Accor, Fairmont and third party partners are implemented on property for Colleagues and Leaders
  • Ensure all departmental onboarding and training are delivered in an effective and timely manner
  • Ensure the Performance Management cycle is integrated, and all Leaders have comprehensive goal setting, personal development plans and reviews on their capabilities on an annual basis
  • Administer the annual Colleague Engagement Survey and oversee the sharing of results and action planning steps
  • Establish/ implement retention strategies to fulfill succession planning and business objectives;
  • Assist with the planning, coordination and execution of colleague and leader events to promote a positive and engaged working environment
  • Contribute to Talent Management activities including mentorship, identification of high potential talent, succession planning and career development of all team members
  • Establish relationships with partners in the local and surrounding community
  • Effectively manage the annual Talent & Culture budget
  • Balance operational, administrative and Colleague needs
  • Follow departmental policies and procedures
  • Follow all safety policies
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Your experience and skills include:

  • Previous human resources leadership experience, at least 3 years, required
  • Computer literate in Microsoft Window applications required
  • University/College degree in a related discipline preferred
  • CHRP designation preferred, but not required
  • Strong business acumen
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work within a team of diverse individuals
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills and ability to make difficult decisions
  • Highly ethical, responsible & reliable
  • Ability to work cohesively as part of a team
  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times

Visa Requirements: Must be legally eligible to work in Canada. The hotel is unable to assist candidates in obtaining Canadian work authorization.
