Job title: 2024 Festival Manager
Job description: Organization Description
The Toronto Bach Festival (TBF) was founded in 2016 by Artistic Director John Abberger to illuminate the creative genius of baroque composer J.S. Bach. Our mission is to engage, inform, and inspire the public through the transformative experience of live performance. We produce an annual, three-day festival in May based on historically informed performance, innovation, and passion. Each year, the festival presents a variety of Bach’s repertoire, with programming that celebrates both well-loved and lesser-known works.
Job Description
The Festival Manager ensures that all plans for the 2024 Festival (May 24 – 26, 2024) are implemented seamlessly and effectively, and that the festival is an outstanding experience for our audience and patrons. The experience of our patrons from first point of contact to festival wrap up is of paramount importance.
Working closely with the Artistic Director, General Manager, and Marketing Strategist, the Festival Manager will implement the day-to-day aspects of the 2024 Festival, including but not limited to box office, front of house, customer service and support, marketing and communications, production, volunteer coordination, and coordination with artists and third-party stakeholders.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Box Office / Front of House
- Manage box office using digital ticketing platform (i.e. Eventbrite)
- Create the front of house plan for festival weekend
- Coordinate and manage volunteers for festival weekend, including volunteer recruitment and training
Customer Service
- Provide excellent customer service at all events
- Address customer queries and issues, responding to email & phone inquiries
- Manage the customer experience from first contact to event attendance and any follow-up that may be necessary
Marketing & Communications
- Help implement the marketing plans as developed by the Marketing Strategist
- Manage the TBF social media profiles on: Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter)
- Manage the TBF mailing list (using Mailchimp), and develop/distribute regular e-newsletters & marketing emails
Production
- Coordinate with third-party stakeholders and contractors, including instrument cartage, lighting & equipment rental, A/V personnel, videographer/photographer, etc.
- Coordinate artist travel and accommodation
- Coordinate the rehearsal and performance schedules for the festival, and communicate with artists, artist managers, venues, and other personnel
- Attend all rehearsals and facilitate needs of artists and venues
This is a 6-month, part-time contract beginning January 2, 2024 and ending June 28, 2024.
Remuneration is $9,000 (to be paid in monthly instalments of $1,500).
This is primarily a remote position and allows for flexible work hours; some in-person work is required, such as site visits, attending rehearsals, performances, and events. The time commitment required is approximately 20-25 hours/week, but is highly dependent on TBF projects and activities (for instance, May involves a more demanding schedule, but June only requires approx. 10 hours/week). Due to the nature of the performing arts environment, some work will occur outside of regular office hours on evenings and weekends especially leading up to and during the 2024 Festival.
The Toronto Bach Festival is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in our working culture and in our community. We welcome and encourage applications from qualified candidates of all cultures, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, and abilities. We invite candidates who may require assistance during the application/ hiring process to advise us and we will work with them to meet their needs.
Please apply by submitting a résumé and cover letter, not later than December 13, 2023, to:
