Calling all reliable self-starters looking for a rewarding work experience! We’re currently on the look-out for an Administrative Assistant – BMBS (Burnaby Municipal Benefit Society) who can provide administrative support in the processing of paperwork related to the Benefit Society.
The Burnaby Municipal Benefit Society is responsible for the administration of the Disability Plan at the City of Burnaby. You’ll be responsible for reviewing documents submitted by claimants for completeness, as well as typing and preparing correspondence for signature. You’ll be monitoring the status of claims and remittances, as well as maintaining spreadsheets to track costs, statistics and claimant related information.
Other responsibilities include: processing disability plan claims by monitoring time loss reports in SAP; preparing information packages for claimants, legal counsel or third parties; composing and typing letters and replies to correspondence on claims management matters; recording and typing minutes for meetings and developing action plans; providing factual information and assistance to internal and external contacts on a variety of matters; reviewing and processing a variety of billings and investigating discrepancies; maintaining the Benefit Society website; setting up and maintaining records systems for all Society records. Performs related work as required.
Due to the nature of the work, you should have a great work ethic and be thorough in your work. As the accuracy of claims is dependent on your monitoring, you should have a keen attention to detail and be reliable in your review and analysis. Although you’ll be reporting to the Administrator, BMBS, there is a large degree of work with minimal supervision, so you’ll need to be dependable, trustworthy with a good sense of judgement. The priorities of the department can change quickly, so you’ll also need to be adaptable.
Qualifications include Grade 12 plus completion of related courses and two to four years’ recent related experience, or a combination of education, training and experience. This role requires considerable knowledge of the Personal Information Protection Act and Bylaws of the Burnaby Municipal Benefit Society. You’ll also need superior clerical aptitude, a typing speed of at least 45 wpm, and skill in the use of software applications used in the work.
